Well, I finally found a FSD ...they are very rare in upstae ny. Got it from a GM dealer. Waswondering if I should have gotten a new harness to go with it? Also, I've read about 'thermal transfer compound' on this list. I asked the parts counter guy and he said there was none listed for this part. He said the mechanics just screw it on and go... How true?

Thanks for the help,
BV

The transfer paste is a real plus. I found some at Radio Shack in wimpy little tubes and would like to find bigger tubes of it. Not sure where to go and find it, but electronic specialty stores might have it in larger quantities. I'd like to find a something like a large tube of toothpaste comes in.

I read that some guys really goop up the complete face of the FSD including the transistor area to help remove the heat. Seems like the right thing to do - as well as moving the heatsink to a cooler location than the engine offers.

www.jameco.com (http://www.jameco.com) has larger tubes about 1/2 the size of toothpaste. The best I have seen.
