Has anyone at least pondered the diesel Jeep Liberty?

Mercedes 2.8L, 4cyl., 160hp @ 3,800, 295lb-ft @1,800, 22mpg city, 27mpg highway, Rated to tow 5,000lbs.

That's 105 lb-ft per liter compared to 66 lb-ft per liter for the 6.5.

If you could mimic that with a 6.5 you would have 682 lb-ft.

But then the liberty in practice will end up with around 31mpg highway which is almost double my 17mpg.

Any one remember the 60's Buick V6 designed to be bolted back to front? Build your own V-12 - 18 - 24...

I have been considering the diesel JEEP Liberty for some time now, for my wife, but somehow I wound up with a new Harley Davidson V-ROD Screaming Eagle, perhaps a mid-life issue?

Anyway, I think the JEEP is a great little machine that needs its share of the diesel market.

Yeah Bruce I've been looking at them. Tried to find a Jeep message board as good as this one but haven't found it! I wish they'd put that diesel in the Grand Cherokee. I've got 160,000 miles on my '97 Orvis Edition Grand Cherokee and really love it. The Liberty is just too small and cutsey.
