Engine runs fine, SES says P1404 on my 1998 K1500 Burb with Vortec 350. The information I can find says either IAT or EGR problem. Can't seem to find any more information than that. Any ideas? Engine has 102K miles and has been very well kept.

Andy,
Protocols for DTCs are set by SAE. I tried a google search on various combinations of Diagonostic Trouble Code, SAE, DTC... Didn't get much of use, but you can probably get something out of the right search if you play w/that for a bit.
Anybody else?

I tried searching also, no much luck. I was thinking about just calling the dealership and asking them?

I have a 1997 Helm manual in front of me, and there is no information about code P1404. P1406 is an EGR valve pintle position problem (I had this on my 1997 K2500 with 350 and ended up just having to clean the carbon gunk out of the valve). P1409 is an EGR Vacuum System leak. P1415 is a Fuel Trim error in Bank 1 while P1416 is a Fuel Trim error in Bank 2.

In case you had a typo, there is a P0404 which is an EGR System Performance code. According to the manual, this code is set when there is a vacuum leak or a pinched vacuum line in the EGR system. Check the vacuum source to the EGR solenoid assembly, and also check for a small leak at the EGR valve itself. When a P0404 code is set, the EGR system is shut down by the PCM.

Weird, I am sure it is P1404. Thanks for the info.

GM generally groups the codes together, meaning as stated above, "P1406" is an EGR code, P1404 is most likely an EGR code.
Its very easy to take off, i would remove it, and check to see if it is stuck shut, if it is, clean it up, make sure it moves freely, put it back on, clear the code and try it a while.
time will tell.
P1440 on the other hand is going to be an "EVAP" system issue. as would P0440.
