My 6.2 lost all power. The injection pump is old and needs to be replaced, but it was running fine and all of a sudden lost all power. It starts fine, and seems to run a little off at idle and revs up fine. But when I try to drive it I can't go over 5 miles an hour. Within the course of driving for less than an hour it went from running normaly, to having no power. Is this the injection pump? Before this happened, at high speeds it would blow white smoke on the highway, and up steep hills. Any suggestions?

The pumps do generally give out rather quickly, I think there was an article on the website once where someone mentioned going from "running fine" to "dead pump" within 200 miles. I know that when mine went bad I'd been having a little trouble on hills for a day or 2, then it got REAL hard to go up a hill as I was leaving town to go to work and 18 miles later I was dead in a parking lot. Just to make sure I cracked all the lines I could reach and cranked the engine, and they were all dry as a bone.

Check all the obvious and easy things first, such as the fuel filter(s), water in the tank etc., before condemning the pump. Does the pump accelerator open all of the way when you mash the go pedal?

The white smoke doesn't sound good though...

Britannic is right. Diesels hate water and if you just filled up the water will lay in the bottom of the tank.
Let us know how it turns out.
Hope this helps,
Don

It was the pump. I put a mechanical pump off of a 6.5 and it runs better than ever!
