What is the vacuum pump used for? I rebuilt my engine and when we put it back in the truck I couldn't figure out how it was soposed to be hooked up. I haven't had any problems, I just can't figure out what it is supposed to do. This is a front mounted, belt driven pump.
If you have AC it operates the diverter doors, and in a truck with EGR it supplies vacuum to the EGR and EPR solenoids. It also supplies vacuum for the modulator on a TH400.

Bill - I have the identical truck to yours, without AC, not sure if you have AC or not...but I have not had my vacuum pump connected for quite a while and haven't had any problems (my EGR and EPR are "disabled"). Far as I can tell it doesn't influence any other components on the truck.

No A/C on my truck, and my EGR is disabled as well. I just wanted to be sure there was nothing else that I was missing.
Thanks!
Bill
May run your cruise system unless it's electronic or if you don't have one.

No cruise either. Infact, I UPGRADED to an AM/FM sterio after I bought the truck. I am pretty sure the only option the truck has is 4X4 and that AM radio!
