Took a 20 mile jaunt with the truck yesterday, have a digital gauge sender in the left head at the by pass plate.
mechanical gauge connected at heater hose outlet on by pass.
Observed temps were mechanical 195* digital 185* factory gauge just shy of 200*
town driving 190 mechanical 180 digital
This confirms that the rear of the head is in fact running cooler than front, with that in mind I can't see that running hoses from the by pass plates to the water pump or anywhere else would be of any benefit.
I realize this is in contrast to what some believe but after my results I can't see any benefit to the modification.

The rear of the head might be where the coolant flows in from the block on its way to cool the heads. I know of other V8 engines that operate similarly. Bypassing from this point back to the water pump would seem counterproductive.
