This subject is almost religious for some :D , so I won't say which is best, only that I have used K&N air filters for around 20 years, both professionally and personally on dirt & street bikes, cars, street & offroad trucks etc., with no problems.

Gale Bank's Engineering uses K&N and still warranty's their systems, so I have no problem using a K&N - YMMV.

The K&N is warranteed for a million miles and is reusable during that time. There are others on the market with similar warranty's and technical specifications to suit your particular budget and usage.

Went with the k&n. Feels real good. K&N says that the filter comes pre-oiled. Should I oil it more or is it ok for the time being?

It should be OK for at least 25000 miles, 50,000 in cleaner environments. If you're out in tons of dust, sand or any other dirty environment, check it more often. You can get a cleaning kit to wash it out and then re-oil. It works better when it's got some dirt on it (just not too much!).
