View Full Version : Could Hard shifts increase crank failures?

I am about to install the B&M 4L80E shift kit. It can be installed in either tow/haul or street/strip mode. If the harsh shifts won't contribute to crank problems I will probably use the street/strip mode. That combined with my Heath Reflash and increased line pressure should deliver a stout shift.

To me, logic would dictate that any crank failures caused by hard shifts would be at the back end of the crank. the most common failure mode of these cranks is at the front.

I would imagine that any stress caused by a hard shift would be more likely to blow a U-Joint than break a crank.
