I was wondering how many miles other people have gotten with there mighty 6.2 , mine has 230,000 on it and I drive it every day 100 miles back and forth to work getting 20 MPG. I leave my 96 6.5 dually in the barn, and drive to work every once and a while to work getting 14 MPG! smile.gif

My 85 K10 w/6.2L, SM465, NP208, and 3.08s had about 290K on it when I took it off the road and tore the engine down. It had cracks in all the main webs but still ran very strongly, getting me anywhere from 18-20mpg depending on how heavy my foot was (usually very heavy) and whether it was winter or summer. My current ride, an 85 C1500 w/6.2L, SM465, and 2.73s, is right about 240K and I've seen as high as 25mpg with it. I just made a speed run to NJ a couple weeks ago and got 22mpg at speeds of 70-75, with LOTS of flooring it to get in or out of traffic. It's absolutely the most reliable, trouble-free vehicle I've ever owned. Of course, when you don't have many things to go wrong, you don't have many things going wrong tongue.gif

My Van had around 500k before I changed the motor. The van was a courier van originally- before I bought it. I have transformed it to people van. I have had it since 1989.

It was factory ordered for the guy that had it before me. It had no windows in the side or back, but had AC, Cruise, Intermitten Wipers and 3:08 gears.

I have put around another 50K since I changed motors, one with a BanksTurbo.

See sig.

Everything original except transfer case (360K), rear end (several of those, now has an HD 12 bolt), one injector pump (90K, warranty) and normal wear items.

I did tear down the top end at about 280K. I considered it normal maintenance to replace timing set, head gaskets and water pump. They were lasting too long to not strand me somewhere. Everything encountered during the top end service was in like new condition, so I didn't mess with anything else.

It is time to do an overhaul due to miles. It still runs excellent, but time is causing everything else to fall apart around it. I'm looking forward to a restore job on it with my son, now 10 y/o.

Danie,

I was running 31x10.50x15s on my K10, and have 235-75LT15s on the C1500. Tire pressure is 40psi front & rear. I am showing signs of slightly accelerated wear in the center of the tread, but not anything excessive for the mileage I've put on (and they're cheap tires anyway.)

I ran my original half ton motor to just over 300,000, and it ran perfectly when removed. It was tired, but it started every morning and still got 17/21 mpg.

my 84 that i bought in 92 had 125,000 when i got it and i ran it to 340,000 before i pulled it off the road before somebody got hurt from flying body parts.man that thing was (is) rusty, used about a quart the first 1000 miles then the next in about 750 .still runs its the farm truck now,to it's last days on the road it still got over 20 mpg.and i have never touched the pump.replaced inj's once but turns out i just had bad fuel, other then that and cracking a torque converter.i did nothing major to it i don't even think i replaced the fuel pump.
