When I first bought my 1993 K2500 w/6.2 and Banks turbo I was wondering if I made a mistake not going for the 6.5L TD. Now I think I have done a complete turnaround. I am so glad to NOT have a DS4 pump, even if I don't have a DB2-4911(Mine is a 5056 i believe). That 599 block is thick as hell with no cracking issues. Do ya'll agree with this? Or would you rather have a 6.5? I guess I would'nt mind a 92-93 6.5TD though. I guess 93 was the best 6.2 from what I can gather..Now to get that TE06H!

Hey Palumbo --

Of course I think you made the right choice, since I too have a -599 block from a 6.2L engine as the basis for my SAA motor.

I will be in Daytona Beach on Friday, visiting Crane Cams on one of my consulting projects. I am also going to learn as much as I can about their grind for our 6.2L and 6.5L diesel engines - whether it is good for NA engines, turbo engines, or both, and how is it different from the stock camshaft.

You'll be 25 minutes away from me! Crane sends some of their test vehicles to our engine builders chassis dyno by our race shop. They have their fingers in a ton of different stuff.

And you will be 1 mile from where I work. I live in Daytona Beach on the beachside. You can't miss my truck..Its the only Chevy 3/4 ton diesel in town with 20" rims on it..

I thought that they only put 6.2s in 1/2 ton trucks in 93? What transmission do you have? Do you have 6 lug wheels?

My truck is a "light duty" 3/4 ton. 7200LBS GVW. It was a NA 6.2 and it has a dealer installed banks turbo system. It has a 4L60E trans, NP241 xfer case, 9.5" semi-float 14-bolt rear. They are 6 lug. Light duty is a silly term though..This truck was used to pull 5th wheel horse trailers for the 1st 125,000 miles. It then was purchased by me and all it does is pull a jet boat (14') or 2 jet skis, which it does a great job of. But now it transitioning into a show truck..Its at 159,000 and runs great and starts like a dream.
