Does the glow plug relay have anything to do with the starter on a 6.2 1983 blazer. Thanks

Hello Captain, and welcome aboard TheDieselPage.com,

If you go to the Members' Area of TheDieselPage.com you will find the Online Troubleshooting Guide made available to all members, and Chapter 12 is specifically about the 1982-1984 glow system, with a schematic diagram. You will find this at

http://www.thedieselpage.com/members/8284glow.htm

where you will need your TheDieselPage ID and password (not your Forum ID and password) to enter.

It looks like the only thing the glow plug relay and the starter have in common is that they are both connected to the battery.

Dr. Lee,
What do you say about replacing the '84 glow controller system with a manual type control from...say Peninsular Diesel? I've got a hillbilly hybrid for a glow control system and a m thinking of ditching the whole mess for a manual control.

Well I'm not Dr. Lee and I won't speak for him but it would seem the wisest thing to do is replace your old system with one for an 85-93 model that has the relay and controller in one modular unit and is simple to hook up and diagnose. I would also use 60 G glow plugs as they are nearly "bullet proof". That way its still all automatic and you have a functional "wait to start"light and you won't have some "ignoramous" get in your truck to move it sometime... mash the manual glow plug button for say...1 to 2 full minutes (thinking it was like grandpas old diesel tractor) and totally roast a set of glow plugs for you....
just my .02 cents worth smile.gif
