View Full Version : No Power to Ingition
Just installed a new Optima red top battery(passengers side). Tore out the gm factory dual battery setup and replaced all the cables that go to the battery. I will eventually have 2 batteries again(more$$) but they will be mounted as close to the starter as possible. Ran pretty well, I think I have an air leak in the fuel line, but that's another post. Parked it about a month ago to weld in my new floor. I have welded in two new rear corners and patch panels to fix the floor where the seat mounts. Went out yesterday to change the oil and got nothing. No lights, no buzzer, nothing. CHecked the battery and connections they all seem fine. Did I burn something up welding? I dont even know where to start

Check the connections down at the starter. GM pulls all of the power for the vehicle off of the main starter lug. That large lug is known for coming loose and getting corroded, causing an entire power loss. There are also some fusible links in the wire harness going to the starter that could have gotten burned out.

Thanks Casey, I will check there. Its a brand new cable and a brand new starter seloniod. I didn't realize that all power goes to the starter first. I thought I would at least get my aux lights etc. I have the chevy shop manual for that year with the electrical diagrams. What does a fusable link look like? Where should I look(manual and truck)?

Had similar symptoms when my fusible link blew at the power lug thingy on the firewall. It looks like a regular piece of wire but will have connectors on each end. Maybe someone else could speak up with a more scientific explanation.
