I have had great sucess with the Robershaw 180 degree thermostats, even making decent heat in the winter and not even getting close to hot in the summer. Back in the good ol days Autozone used to sell them, but they have sence discontinued them (because they were probably too expensive for cheap customers). You will have to get one through Kennedy Diesel, and another place that I cant remember off the top of my head. When I heard that they were gonna quit selling them I bought em up, so I have spares for my rigs. Here is what they look like (w/o the rubber gasket, this is needed on 6.5s not 6.2 thermostat crossovers):

I haven't had much luck with the Stant stats, mainly because they tend to stay shut too long while cold and get too hot before they open up. They don't seem to be too consistant on temperature, they fluctuate. I like the RS stats because the temp gauge will get to the 180 mark and stop, instead of going to 210 then opening to go back to 180. My .02!

John 8662,What years was the rubber gasket used? my 83 6.2 only had a paper gasket.
makes me wonder if my RS 195 stat is floating around in housing..........Merle

Merle,

The rubber gasket wasn't used on any 6.2 to my recollection. It was used on the dual thermostat housings on the 6.5TD though. The thermostat in the pics is of the smaller version thermostat, but it looks the exact same as the bigger thermostat for the single thermostat setups on the 6.2's. All of my 6.2's have the big thermostat w/o a gasket and a paper gasket for the housing itself. Your thermostat isn't floating around. Although I have found that I can't get the dern gaskets to seal my 6.2 thermostat housing, so i just use RTV, hand tighten the two bolts, let er sit. When almost dry torque it down. I have gone through 3 different types of the paper gaskets on my 86 6.2 and the current one seeps a little around the edge, so i am going to take it apart and take my own advice and use RTV, like I did on my Project Truck Suburban.

I'm running the series 370 in all my rigs, I haven't looked at a series 354. I have had good luck with the 370 series. Have used three of them and not a one has a problem. Ditto on the paper gaskets, same problem, not a bad leak, just seeps.
