A/C loses!

Swapping (finally) a 6.5 turbo system onto my 89 1 ton crew cab 6.2. This is the older body style, straight front axle.

Kept gutting until the turbo fit, lost the drivers side a/c cover, the radiator-looking-deal, and most of the passenger side a/c cover.

I can live without the a/c (Yes, I live in Phoenix. Yes, I am insane), but I will need heat for the winter.

Would a truck that came without a/c have a smaller duct work system I can use?

Been wanting under-hood air compressor for my tires anyway, now I have one! ;)

Thanks

i think the firewall stays flat except for the blower motor on non a/c stuff.

I think that a truck w/o A/C that just has the small box with the blower will work. I don't know if it will cover up all the holes or not, maybe someone else will chime in here.

I read on these pages somewhere that a S-10 heater/ac box can be adapted to fit.
GMCTD knows for sure as he has the 6.5 turbo in a K30.

Takes some cut-n-splice rearranging, but can be done.

Best bet is probably the '88 late style unit, fitted inside the cab.
Housing is all thermo-plastic, so can be modified.

so is this the new body style 88 parts you are using? I'm doing the same thing to my truck right now. I want to put the a/c back to keep the wifey happy. I was thinking about putting the evap back in and building around it. What about this s-10 parts will they work?

Yer gonna need an evap off the S-10 too.

No way the original would fit on my truck.

If you check the pic closely, that's an S10-15 housing spl:iced to the C-K housing using the original '89 factory C-K evaporator

Best bet is to use the package unit outta '88-up round-body truck - only thing in the engine bay is the acc\drier cannister.

Don't know if this will help, but my 85 K30 has a turbo out of a newer 6.5. I didn't do the fit, but the stock AC was retained as far as I can tell. It looks like the guy made a spacer between the exhaust manifold and the block to accomplish this.. I can send a few pics, but I have had no luck posting them here. Let me know if interested
and maybe I can email them or find a place to stick them on the web..

On another note I just froze up my compressor and grenaded my serpentine belt.. I just put up a post called "AC Woes" if any of of you are knowledgeable on these AC systems and could share a little info, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

correction:

the spacer was between the exh. manifold and the head...

DOH!
