Definitely a newbee question.
Where is the casting number located on a 6.2?
I don't own a diesel but am looking for one to put in a Wagoneer.

Thanks
John

The casting number on a 6.2 is almost something not worth looking for, but it can tell you if you've found a 6.2 or a 6.5.

The casting number will be on the rear of the engine on the "driver's" side of the engine or just behind cylinder #7. The cast number will be on a pad below the cylinder heads.

For a 6.2 the casting number for the sake of making things easy will end in "660."

All 6.2's made in the 80's will have the 660 casting made from 82+

The last production 6.2's shared the same cast number as the 6.5, this occurred in 92 where the 6.2 saw it's last year of production. These engines were casted with the '599 ending digits.

The best engines are the 82 "red" engines due do a better casting allow, or more nickel content. We call them "Red" because they were the only 6.2 to be painted chevrolet red/orange from factory, kind of cool looking IMHO.

Oh, by the way: WELCOME TO THE DIESEL PAGE FORUMS!
