View Full Version : leaking thottle shaft
Is there an easy way to fix a leaking thottle shaft (witout taking the IP out)? 86' 6.2
I found my answer in a previous post, but now I need to know if there is a part number for the throttle shaft seal.

Hi
How did you find out you need to repalce the throttle shaft seal?I'v been fighting a hard start problem since i got my truck, and i was leaning towards a leak in the IP.
Thanks
According to my 85 parts manual it's
14083510 for a "J" pump.
Maybe someone can confirm this.

I replaced the throttle shaft seals on a 6.2 DB2 about 10 years ago. The pump only had about 30K on it, and though the local Stanadyne shop insisted I'd need a new pump, I got the new Viton seals from them (about $2) and changed the seals myself without removing the pump.
Not a big deal if you are somewhat mechanically inclined - when disassembling and re-assembling little parts. You will need to scribe a line on the "light-load advance cam" and the throttle shaft, so it goes back on in the same orientation as it was originally. I used a carbide scribe tool.
Good cheap fix...

Thanx guys, If I have to I will take the parts of a spare pump for now. No problems with starting, or running, I could just smell the raw fuel dripping on the motor.
