My 6.2 developed an annoying ticking sound and several months ago I found out that if I replaced the vacuum pod with a stub shaft it reduced the noise considerably. I finally got sick of all this and took the pan off. I found that the screened end of the oil pump tube was making contact with the bottom of the oil pan. I could see the marks where it was hitting and making this noise. I moved the screened end up so it was parallel with the bottom of the engine as it pivots at the oil pump and I predict the noise will be gone once re-installed. So, if you're putting a new oil pump in check for clearance with the oil pan so you can avoid this annoyance.
