I heard that auto meter pyrometers are not accurate. Is this true? What should I get to get an accurate reading? I have an NA 6.2 and plan on puting the thermocouple on the driver side header at the rear of the engine because it will be hotter. Is this a good place to put it?

Best place would be in one of the exhaust runners as close to the port as possible so you take the temp as close to the cylinder as can be.
Point is you want to know what's happening inside your engine not in the header.

This is probably a stupid question, but what are the exhaust runners?

There are also many others. I have that third one.
Three+ years now. Works great. Think I paid around 150 for it.

The exhaust runners are those parts of the exhaust manifold that's comming from the cylinderhead and goes into the collector.
so the four short pipes of the manifold close the the head.

Peter

PS, the only stupid question is the one never asked.
You only risk a stupid answer... :D

Anyone have feedback on the Autometer units? I was just getting ready to buy my gauges.

i bought one from summit. i think it ran 164.00 if i remember right. It works great! Just make sure u mount it where it will easily be read. I tried the steering column only to put it in gear and have it move. so i mounted mine just to the left of the ash tray. pointed it toward me and up so i can read it. now i keep one eye on the road and the other on the gauge. Hope this helps,
Don

mine is located on the collector, just before the turbo mounting flange. It's measuring the air temp entering the turbo ... not sure if that's a good location or not
