Thought I would share some information with those of you who use a 700r4 transmission. While climbing a steep grade, my truck shifted from 3rd into 1st gear. After stopping to investigate, everything appeared normal. Trans temperature was normal and the fluid level and condition was fine. After doing some head scratching and a lot of research, I discovered that the plastic drive gear on the governor had sheared. The gm p/n for the gear is 8663995. I have gathered a lot of useful information off this forum, I hope this helps someone in the future.
