Any 3500's Towing Heavy with 235/85R16Es???

I'm currently towing my 13,500 lb. horse trailer with 215/85R16E's and am considering using spacers to permit use of the 235 tire. After an undetect (inner) rear tire failure on a steep downhill I feel the need for either a)larger tires and/or b)remote tire pressure monitoring. My only concern with the larger tires is the slight (5%) decrease in effective rear end ratio. I'd like to hear from anyone who has made this conversion.

Also, anyone out there have experience with the tire pressure monitoring systems? This may seem like a luxury, but the good news with a dually is that you have four rear tires; the bad news is that if one fails the other on that size is substantially overloaded unless you are running 19.5" tires. The 235's would buy me about a 400 lb increase in single tire rating.

Go to 19.5's and you would not believe the difference. Better ride and stable as a rock with a tow behind.

Ltrainracing- 19.5 is the rim diameter. 225/75R-19.5 is the tire size.

As to the origanal question, I run Michilin 235 85 R16E LTX AT on mine (Ya, I know they are made by the French :rolleyes: ) with no spacers and I pull heavy (see sig).Make sure your tires are inflated to max air pressue or they may rub, but mine haven't.

HeartbeatHauler, Ltrainracing- The cost depends on what wheels and tires but they are not cheap. No mods. are needed to make the switch. I bought mine from ricksontruck.com and cant't say enough good about them. A pleasure to deal with.

i've run 235 coursers on the '01 3500 dumpbed since new with zero problems

truck weighs 10k empty and often 19k+ with a full bed. add another 8k (at least) for 18' equipment trailer and bobcat or tractor and its in to 'look out for motor carrier enforcement' time.

truck handles it fine if you don't hurry and leave plenty of room to stop. should be no problem.
