Anybody know if the 2500 HD with the 6.0 is faster than a DMAX, both are ext-cab 4X4. We don't have a track around here and a couple of guys at work with the 6.0 say there is no way a diesel will beat them.

Only 1 sure fire way to find out, LINE EM UP, LOL, it would be close, probable, the 6.0L to 60 ft, 6.6 at 660 and 1/4, 6.0L to limiter.

SORRY TO SAY IT BUT THE GUYS YOU WORK WITH ARE ONLY DREAMING, EVEN IF THE 6.0S ARE CHIPPED. BRING ANY PRODUCTION GASSER TRUCK ON THAT IS CHIPPED NOS IS A DIFFERENT STORY THOUGH smile.gif

Having had 2 6.0 in a 2500 (not HD but about the same drive train). The 6.0 would take the dmax on the line but after the 20+ lbs. of boost hit the intake on the dmax it would be over for the 6.0 untill the dmax hit the limiter!! :D

that 6.0 has 4.10's in her if she is the HD series..., the 6.6 has 3.73's... the 6.0 will probably take the 6.6 out of the hole.

They both say they have the 3.73 rearend.

If they have a 2500 HD and a 6.0 they have a 4.10 rear. If they have a 1500HD they might have 3.73.

The 6.0 and the D-max both make 300 HP.
The 6.0, the 4L80-E and the 10.75 rear end all weigh less than their counterparts in a D-max.

At or near sea level, with empty trucks I'll put my money on the 6.0L.

Pulling loads in the mountains west of Denver there isn't any way that 6.0 will keep up.

If your "friends" are trying to convice you they have 3.73 gears, they may not be telling you about something else that they have...

I didn't buy my diesel to go drag racing, it's a pretty quick draft horse, but it's not a quarter horse.

My buddy has a 8.1 with 4.10's and beat me to the limiter by 3 car lengths. I don't think a 6.0 will touch it.

Left foot brake, right foot go pedal, in 4x4, leave at 2,000 RPMs. Dont stall it here for long. Hit the 2wd button once rolling, and I doubt it will be much of a race. If you do this in 2wd, chances are you'll smoke the tires and get beat off the line.

Put ANY power box on your truck, and it will be no contest for sure.

AMEN KENNEDY!!!!!! YOU SAID IT. COLORADOKID SEALEVEL OR 5280FT ALT IT DOESNT MAKE A DIFFERENCE THE 6.6 WILL OUT RUN AND OUT WORK THE 6.0 TO THE LIMITER smile.gif

Been there done that. My crew cab 4x4 dmax vs friends reg cab 4x4 6.0 non HD 3:73. I pulled the 6.0 by a truck length at the start, and then a slow, steady pull up to 80, where I had him by 4 truck lengths. Tell your co-workers to line up at the stoplight and see the difference 150 lb ft of torque and 5 gears make. After that ask them how they like getting 12 mpg. So many non-believers, not enough time.

6.0 vs. Dmax? Isn't that like bringing a knife to a gun fight? My friends 6.0 at 300hp/360lb can't out run my 454 at 290hp/410lb especially of the line. How in the world could someone think that it would catch a Dmax. Oh and after that last trip to Fort Worth speedway me with a 454 and a fiver and the brother in-law with a 6.0 and a fiver.....well I just don't think so.

No way will the 6.0 beat THE MAX. From a dead stop, a roll then go, it doesn't matter. Tell your friends to go test drive a Duramax. They might change their mind. I'd say the 6.0 would have a hard time off the line too, unless the driver of the duramax doent know how to take off without spinning. Practice makes perfect!

Well guys I finally raced one of my friends, his truck is the 6.0 ext. cab with the 4.10 rear. I took him off the line (he said he spun his wheels but I didn't hear any squealing and didn't see any marks) for about a tenth of a mile then he caught me and passed me. We ran to the limiters, and he beat me by three or four truck lengths (he said five). I guess I done something wrong, I just can't believe he beat me but he did. I think I could beat my other friend as his truck has the 3.73 rear. I wonder if it would help if I put an Amsoil air filter in and drilled the air box. I guess I could also work on my technique. Any other suggestions? P.S. we were going up hill.

Zap,

That's pretty amazing .......... How well do you know him? Do you think he got one of those 5'TH ACES up his sleeve? Ah skip that, that was for someone else ........ tongue.gif

What I'm saying is his truck stock? Tires and all? It is hard to believe he beat you, especially up hill ........ All I could say is if you launched the way you were instructed and got beat, call it a day, take your ball, and go home ....... Once home call EDGE ...... Get your self one of those "JUICE" boxes, next day air ....... Call in sick, wait for your shipment to arrive ...... Plug that sucker in, take her for a spin, practice taking that BIG'OL smile off your face , that will be important ....... Go back to work, or where you know him from, tell your friend your FUEL filter was clogged and you fixed it, but in the process you broke your hood latch ...... SOB ....... Line them up and seek your revenge ......... He'll cry himself to sleep ........

Sorry to burst your D-max bubbles, but the 6.0's can take the 6.6's. As much as I like the duramaxes, and will own one sometime in the future, the 6.0's are a wicked motor, even though they're not the best towing setup. I have a 2001 2500 HD 4x4 X-cab short bed, 6.0, auto, 4.10's, with 285/75/16's, with a few minor bolt-on mods (different air filter, mufflers, underdrive pulley, etc). My brother has a 2002 2500 HD 4x4 X-cab short bed, duramax/allison, 3.73's, also with 285/75/16's. His is stock. We raced several times. The first time, we both left from an idle, without any brakestanding or building boost, and I pulled him immediately off the line, and by 90 mph had a good 8-10 lengths on him. The second time he launched in 4wd, built the boost up to the point that the brakes were hardly holding, and launched. I stayed in 2wd, and launched the same way I had the first time-from idle, no brakestanding. He immediately jumped me 2 lengths off the line, but by 2nd gear I had caught him, and by 90 mph I had maybe 4 or 5 lengths on him. Mine ran a 15.7 @ 89 mph at the dragstrip, but he hasn't run his yet. I know that if he chips his, it's all over for me though. (unless I decide to try one of the new Yank HD torque converters and maybe a different cam smile.gif )

I was under the impression that the d max was faster. I thought that some of the mags did testing that showed the same. I can say that I have a 6.0 and with my mods it will scream, but I didn't think that I could take a 6.6.

Well I had a 2000 chipped 6.0L before this dmax and the max will take the 6.0L that I had every round.

I've ran 3 different 6.0's so far, and smoked them with my max.

This Sucks!!
No one will race with me. I have a couple of buds with trucks who won't, and nobody gives me a second look at the stoplight. My truck (stock) sure feels quick (it is black after all...) but I wouldn't mind testing it a little.
I will say that there is nobody faster on the highway when I commute! And I have had to race some "civillian law enforcement" who thought I should stay behind them in the left lane...
They definately looked surprised. This truck make 95 from 65 pretty fast.

I must confess......

Having previously owned 7.4 litres of GM Rat power in my 97 ex/Cab I will say it would be a close race. I feel after driving the MAX for 4600 miles that it would probably take the gasser, not by alot though.

However, add a Juice box, an exhaust, and a better air intake or modified one and come one come all, YOU WILL LOSE!!!

TOURQUE IS WHAT GET'S STUFF MOVING, AND DMAX'S MAKE A WHOLE LOT.

Just my .02

Cannot say I've had the opportunity to line up with a new 6.0 .... No doubt with my "JUICED" 7500 # truck, they wouldn't stand a chance ........ I have more fun with those "CHAIN SAWS " fast and furious want ta be's ....... It is some hilarious when they roll up on the side of me all white knuckled . Revving up there saws, when the light turns green, and I smoke them royally till the next stop .... Then I do it again ... I OH MOST PI** MY PANTS LAUGHING SO HARD.....

Nope, not in my book I own both a 2001 6.0 ext cab And a 2002 Dmax identical trucks except for drivetrain, Dmax will smoke the 6.0 Ya gotta spool up the turbo before you take off to beat a 6.0 but Ive seen it and can test the theory at any time. Besides a dmax can pass everything including a gas station. I get 420 miles on a tankful of gas compared to the 6.0 only getting 220 230 miles. Plus the tick of the duramax is much more easy to hear then the clunking the 6.0 makes every time I start it. Ill never buy a gasser again.

The biggest problem I have with the 6.0 setup is a 2.48:1 first gear. GM kinda screwed up putting a motor that likes RPM in front of a tranny with a poor first gear. Both the Alli and 4L60E have 3.0X:1 first gears. That's roughly 17% more reduction.

here is some first hand experience:

when i bought my 01 2500hd 4x4 extcab shortbed dmax allison it replaced my 99 2500 4x4 extcab shortbed 6.0 4L80E.

both trucks are slt's with the 01 hd obviously weighing quite a bit more. 3.73 locking diff on both too. no engine mods to either at that time. the 99 had 50k on it, and little more than 150 miles on the 01.

only difference was 265 michelins on the 99 and stock 245 firecraps on the 01. (we were on the way to swap the tires and rims so the custom rims and michelins would be on the new truck and the brand new factory rims/tires on the 99 to sell.)

we lined them up at a stop light on the hiway (me driving the 01). i gave it minor power-braking, not sure what he did.

he left me for dead off the line and i gained a bit as our speeds increased but i gave up at about 75mph with him a good 8 or more truck lengths away.

i was sure my new badass diesel would stomp the gasser but it didn't happen from a dead start. we also did a roll-on from about 30mph and it was quite close with the edge going to the diesel.

now put a load on them both and the story would be completely different!

i towed 15k+ (soaking wet sod) with the 99 a few times and 10k (bobcat) alot it didn't like it, but it did it. it was a total dog off the line (no torque and no gears to help out) but would eventually get up to hiway speed and sorta maintain it on hills as long as running at 5krpm all the time didn't bother you. it did me.

just doesn't seem right to have a truck engine spinning that fast. i kept waiting for it to blow up or something...it never did, just kept pulling.

what really sucked was having to refuel every 180 miles or so.

with the van aaken box, k&n fipk, kennedy 4" exhaust and 265's on it my '01 would absolutely stomp the 99 now. but that's not quite a fair comparo, i suppose.
