First of all, Mdrag, you might be interested in this....

I have had the K&N filter in now for about 40K miles, and currently, I have not oiled it for about 15K - 20K miles (been a while, but just dont remember). I have been driving in normal conditions, with some dirt roads. Not a lot, but some.

I just got my analysis back from usoil.com, and ALL came back normal.

WEAR METALS (ppm)
Iron 9
AL 0
Chrome 0
Coper 4
Lead 1
Tin 0
Cadmium 0
Silver 0
Nickel 1
titanium 0

CONTAMINANT METALS (ppm)
Silicon 3
Sodium 8
Boron 14
Potassium 3

ADDITIVE METALS (ppm)
Barium 1
Calcium 3220
Magnesium 37
Molybdenum 12
Phosphorus 973
Zinc 1106

using AMSoil 15-40, miles tested was at 54,947. The viscosity at 100C cSt was at 14.9.

Fuel in oil: <1%
Water<.1 %
Soot <.1%

USOIL.com's comments: Wear metals and contaminant levels within normal ranges.

Currently using the ACD filter from the dealer....

Not to jump on the bandwagon on bashing K&N filters but I have removed mine and replaced it with the Amsoil 2 stage filter. The reason for this is the Oil Report that I received from Blackstone Labs.
To quote them:

Alli-max,

Oil analysis report looks great...IIRC you are supposed to send in the USED oil, not the NEW... ;) :D

Does anyone know if it is possible to see the wear metals reading zeros when the oil has significant miles on it?

Given this data, just how long can you safely go between oil changes using Amsoil 15W40 synthetic?
10K? 15k? I know the oil analyses above given some clear indicators, but are there any rules of thumb?

Mdrag, I just got back from your neck of the woods - I'm from Apache, and was out fishing at Elsworth last Saturday.

Alli-Max,

Did you sample warm, and very shortly after shut down? Let a qt or 2 drain first?

Guess we all have something to look fwd to when our engines get broken in!

Seriously, the gooseggs are kinda strange. SOME gooseggs are normal, but all???

On edit: I guess this does happen with some fleet vehicles as they can tend to get run hard, and broken in well...

I have 22,500 (don't tell my dealer ;) ) on mine with normal (Fleetguard Stratopore) filtration. I am also using an Amsoil 2-stage air filter.

Although, I have never had goose-eggs in any category. I would be suspect of something with those numbers.

I just read my post, and it is now edited. I am SORRy I did that!! All Zero's would be pretty good though! I guess I was interested in lining the columns up..

As for how many miles... that of course is the million dollar question. I am heading to South Texas next week, and will change it upon return. It will be a 1400 mile R.T. Time for a Fuel Filter as well, it has ~17,000 on it right now....
