Does anyone know if there are any good places to look for used DMAX's in the midwest. I have tried things like autotrader and the local papers, but there aren't many out there. I know they haven't been out long, but thought there might be some out there from the guys that trade every year. I want to replace my '97 6.5, but don't have the cash for a brand spankin' new one. Are there any major differences between the '01 and '02's?

Thanks
Chris

I've seen a few here in the Denver newspaper classifieds, but the one thing that has been consistant so far is that the asking prices are higher than the current new (carefully negotiated and after rebates) trucks are actually selling for, even if they have 60,000 miles  .

Of course I don't know how the asking prices compare to the selling prices, but I couldn't justify buying used when I could get exactly what I wanted for less money if I was just willing to wait a couple months. As you can see from the signature I did spec a fairly low cost version of the D-max truck, so the used ones are way above what I paid because they typically have Allisons, 4x4 and Leather that I didn't order.

The same rules seem to hold for brands D and F diesels as well. I just can't figure out paying more than $ 30,000 for a 1 or 2 year old truck with 50 - 100 K miles when I can get a new one for little or no more money.

I never bought new before, but for this truck there didn't seem to be any reason not too.

The differences between '01 and '02 are extremely minor.

The used ones I've seen are going for top dollar. I agree with the kid, just buy a new one. I'm planning to get one and I looked at used ones but for a few bucks more why not get a new one the way you want it? Unless you find someone that needs money bad, you will pay all the money for a used one.

Hey, NickLeinonen, I have a '97 6.5L ext cab, LB K2500. I was wondering what type of mileage you are getting with your '97. I have the 4.10 rear end. I see too that you have the larger tires. I went to the 265's from the factory 245's, I didn't recalibrate the speedo, but that should only be a few percent on the tripodometer. Before the 265's, straight exhaust (no cat or muffler) the truck got 16-18 MPG, now it has trouble seeing 14, usually 12-13 MPG. I wondered if you saw similar results? It also feel like it has lost some power. Its pretty crisp when the engine is cold, but seems to get sluggish after it warms up. Thanks in advance for any info, just thought maybe you encountered similar problems. Oh yeah, and it doesn't seem to matter summer vs winte fuels. I run #2 all year with an additive in the winter to prevent gelling.

Thanks
Chris

Tyrell Doyle Chevrolet here in Cheyenne Wy. has a 2001 LS Ext Cab, Short Bed White with 21,900 miles on it asking 36,385.00. Has not had a gooseneck or 5th wheel hitch on it. Edmunds says this truck is worth 29,000.00. I know, supply and demand, but I bet a person could buy it for around 32,000.00.

Lets run through the math on New vs used.
I just traded my 01 with 9600 miles to the dealer because I could not sell it after two months and a couple of hundred dollars advertising it.
Old truck, Allison equipped, Stickered for 39.8K
Invoice 35.6K plus 1000=36.6K I had added quite a few mods and was willing to leave them on and felt justified in asking 34K for it.

New truck(not mine, I bought a ZF6) sticker 40K
Invoice 35.5K plus 1000=36.5K less 2000 rebate= 34.5K Only 500 dollars more for a NEW truck which is much easier for most people to finance than used.
Which would you buy?
In the end I traded my 01 for 30K :( and got to keep the grille and tires. I had one of my spies :D go buy the dealer and check the asking price for my trade and for once the dealer was honest when they said they would only ask 32K for it.
