I am posting this for my dads' D-max
We have had it since the beginning of the
0% deal. It has around 5k miles. We have
been extremely pleased with the performace and comfort of this rig. We have made one long pull to the four corners area and got
14mpg pulling our 36' fiver. Unloaded mpg
was 19-21mpg. For the last ~1,500 miles it has been getting 11-13 mpg unloaded. There has been no power loss, has set no codes. There are new filters in it and we have tried stanadyne additive. 2001 D/A CC LB 4X4. Sorry for the long post. Any input will be helpful.

Well I have 4200 miles on mine now and all city and highway driving. I have been jumping up and down from 19.5 miles to a low of 14.5. I have not been towing anything heavy yet will be getting my 36 foot 5th wheel March 1st. I will post what miles I get then towing it. It has a gross weight of 14,000

My mileage is not very consistant either. I've got 9K on a 3500 E/C. On a recent trip to N.D. I got from 17.8 (all time best) to 14.3 in the same 14 hour trip unloaded. Pulling heavy (real heavy) I've gotten as low as 7 mpg. I think a lot has to do with fuel quality, weather, and varying driving habits. You may want to look at the air and fuel filters.

Well,
I have NEVER gotten above 15.8, and for the last 4 fillups I have averaged 13.6 MPG. I have <5000 miles on this truck and so far I love the truck, but feel some what ripped off because a lot of folks are supposedly getting as high as 20+ but most are averaging around 17-18.

Mcfly,

I have the same truck as you, and am singing the same song. 13.4 average. Have you had a good tow yet? I finally got a heavy tow for around 1800 miles and am hoping that it will do better now. I noticed on my trip that one tank full (part towing and part empty) that I got around 14.5 (my best ever) Over all averaged 10.5 to 11 on whole trip towing with a little empty mixed in. But that 14.5 I got once got me anxious to see what the next running empty tank will be.

Ironhead,

I have not Towed anything yet. 80% of my miles are highway. I took delivery of the truck in early November 2001 with 102 miles on the OD. I drove from Charlotte, NC to Clarksburg MD and averaged around 15.0 on my first tank. The trip home was about the same. Over Christmass I drove from Charlotte to Pittsburgh avg 14.8. Then I drove from P'burgh to Maryland (criise set at 65) avg 15.8. On the way home from MD ave was 14.2. Last 3 or 4 tanks have been around 13.5. I have not changed the fuel filter yet, I have >5000 miles on the truck therefore the filter should not be plugged yet. I do not think I got a bad batch of fuel, as the truck never ran poorly.

Let me know If the tow did anything for the fuel mileage. If that is the key, I will borrow my buddy's boat and tow it around for a week.

7mmSTW,
I think there is something very wrong with your truck, you should not drop in fuel mileage that much !!! I would suggest that you bring it to the dealer and see what they have to say. Just for a reference, my truck unloaded gets 15-17 local and 19-20 highway only driving which from my readings on this board appears to be about the norm. Use the warrenty, can't hurt.

We have taken it into the dealership where at the time they seemed highly unconcerned. It did not set any codes so they say there isn't anything wring with it. They finally called my Dad the other day as a follow up and told him if it keeps happening to bring it back in.

Thanks for the replies!

7mm did you ever figure out what was wron with your dads pickup? I have a buddy with the same problem. His brother-in-law bought the outfit new then was getting 18-20 mpg then sold it to my buddy and now with 50,000 miles he is only getting about 13-14 mpg.

Any help would be wonderful.
