my new 02 with 1400 miles started missing a little at idle and if reved to 1200 rpm in neutral. Going down the road it will surge. This morning it has oil all under dripped off truck in several puddles under truck. Under the truck is all covered. I know it is motor oil for sure. Seems like the oil pressure is low, on cold start it is only at 60psi at idle, pretty sure it used to peg the neddle. Changed the oil at 800 miles, filter is not leaking and plug is not leaking. Is there anyone who has had this happen and what is it.

I'd have it towed in to the dealer for repair. I don't know where it could be leaking from, but it' certainly not good.

Could it possibly be a fuel leak? Check around the fuel pressure sensor.
There are many topics on the pressure sensor leaking. Do a search. It could cause poor running condition also.

Sounds like a job for the service dept.

Are you missing any oil on the dipstick? If not than it is probably fuel. Look on top of motor on pass. side and see if valley or fittings are wet.

I am sure it is motor oil, it was a little low but i over filled by 1/2- 3/4 when i changed the oil. I pushed onstar @ they wanted to tow it to a dealer I have never had any dealing with so I just drove it 30 miles to dealer I bought it from. The more I think about it, It is probably the oil sending unit since the oil pressure is low also, I sure hope this is it I would hate for them to have to tear my brand new motor down, especially after the trouble I just had with my 01 i hadfor 3mnths and they couldnt fix.

The oil press. sending unit is on the DS front, down low, a little ways in front of the oil filter. If that was it, the oil would be dripping just from that area of the engine.

Could it be excess oil getting blown out of the breather from over filling? I don't think that would cause poor running unless very over filled. Even if it was mine and I located the source of the leak, I'd still let the dealer fix it.

Good luck! Steve

OIL LEAKS ARE ON THE DURAMAX ENGINE. I had the oil pan leaking for a while. The dealer tried to stall repairing it. "WRONG" I put the request in writing stating that they were required to repair it under the 3/36 factory warranty period. My 2001 duramax has 26000 miles. They thought I would over look this issue. NOT A CHANCE!! ITS FIXED

Update. It has been in the shop now for 48 hours and they cannot find where the oil is coming from, they think it may be coming out of the blow-by tube. It doesnt seem like they are in any hurry to fix, or very worried about getting my truck back on the road. If the oil is coming out of this tube, what would be the cause?

If I might suggest....

Check your crankcase for fuel in the oil (or suggest it to the dealer). I have heard of one case where the fuel pump had a seal fail, allowing the fuel to be pumped into the crankcase. If this were to happen, the crankcase would overfill itself and force the excess out of the breather tube, causing oil to cover the underside of the engine/truck.

Maverick, sounds like an idea but the oil level on the dipstick has dropped which rules that out.

Sambo,
What turned out to be the verdict on this problem???? It's been 5 months. I am researching a problem a friend is having on a road trip. I am unable to see the truck to help him. Hoping your situation may shed some light.

My dealer decided to go ahead and pull the oil pan off and completly redo the job right this time. I now have no oil leaks THANK GOD!! Pay $40.000 and have this kind of problem no way. MAKE them fix it or tell them you plan to LEMON LAW the truck. This gets you a QUICK action most of the time. My oil leak was at the rear of ht eoil pan causing oil to spray over the trans area. Dont let people even suggest an FUEL or TRANS leaks. ITS very easy to detect the type of fliud. Color and smell can make that determination alone. Its nice to have a non oil leaking truck.

diesel dog,
there is an issue of engine oil leak coming from where the oil cooler mates to the block. there may be minor imperfections in the engine block machined surfaces at the oil cooler. there is a g.m. service bulletin; 02-06-01-023, that has us replace the "o" rings, and apply sealer to certain areas of the surface. also, there may be a leak from the main bearing cap side bolts. we have not had any failures of these yet tho, so i can't comment on success of repairs. have your friend take it to local dealer, if they can't find the leak easily, they can put in engine "dye" and trace it with a black light.

hope this helps,

Had oil leak in our Duramax at 96,000 miles. Lost most of the oil (Amsoil) in a short amount of time (less than a mile), and blew the turbo up. Had to put 9 quarts back in to fill it back up.

Refilled it with oil, and drove it 200+ miles to the dealer. They said some oil lines were faulty and that is where the leak came from? Kept a close eye on the oil level while driving it back to the dealer. They fixed the leak, replaced the turbo and fuel pump at the same time. The truck now has 120,000+ and is still going strong! :D
