Ok, I get my "new" Dmax and I'm brimming with excitement. On the first tank the computer said that I was getting about 18 MPG. I thought that was great...until I checked it via hard data. The computer was way off, like 14 MPG not 18. On this third tank it seems to be working correctly showing around 13 MPG. However, why am I getting such bad fuel economy? I was concerned about the gears lapping properly when new. I drove the truck "really" easy for the first 500 miles. I am wondering if that is what effected my "reading" on fuel? My last truck got 15 or 16 MPG when new, first 1200 miles. After 1,200 miles the truck stayed around 12/14 MPG until I reached 22k. Once I reached 22k the milage began to climb, real slow. By 24k, trade-in time, I was getting close to 16 MPG on the Hwy. ----- Heck I'm just frustradededed  I have spoken with many people that get around 17 out of their trucks. What do I need to do to get this "magic" fuel economy! Setting the cruise at 70-74 only yeilds me 16 at best? Is there a program for this?

 Sorry for the odd post but, I'm just not happy about the fuel economy. Dagnammit, I love this thing. ;)

If you are running 265s, you need to multiply your indicated miles by 1.04 (1.03876 to be exact) to correct for the larger tires.

I'm finding that the computer is only off by 0.4 to 0.5 mpg on my truck. I can vary my "calculated" mpg by how "full" I fill the truck. After the first pump shut-off click, I can easily get more than another gallon in.

I have a 2002 3500. Get 17 local NYC area and 20 Hwy at 70 mph. Towing 14,000 lb. fifth wheel on interstate at 70 get 13.5.
