Can someone help?
Cruising at low speeds below 1000 rpms sometimes the engine develops a loud rattle and if i give it gas it pours out the white smoke,as soon as i let up it runs fine, what gives.

White smoke can be caused by un-burnt fuel. Does it smoke when cold or idling? Are you running a power box?

I have had the same problem on and off with my 2001 dmax with juice.... its like the crank sensor gets lost for a second... I have found that if the motor comes down to a idle it cures it self.... most of the time it happens in the rain or mist above freezing at highway speeds most of the time.... I havent nailed down whats causeing it ,Its never left me stranded.... I bet its done it 100 times....in the last 2.5 years... shopping for a new truck so let the stealer deal with it!

I had exactly the same thing happen to me last summer pulling my travel trailer. No power, engine sounded like the pilot injection was turned off and a large cloud of grayish-white smoke out the tailpipe, but no SES light. Put my foot into it and after the 3rd attempt, it was back to running fine. Took it to the dealer the next week and it had sensed a camshift position sensor failure and set a code. They replaced the sensor.
If its still under warranty, they might be able to get the code if its been withing 40 key cycles.

no codes have ever come up,but this thing sounds like it through a several rods yes i do have a small power box it just happens when you are at a crawl low idle for a bit then stomp on it and watch the people heads turn its loud.
