I have an 01 Dmax LT -
Has been a great truck so far - I am having the occasional hard / no start - Dealer suspects injectors but needs to Pull apart the max to perform tests .. it's been an ongoing problem for 2 years --

I'm a little nervous - I'm reading about all these injector problems. I want to replace the truck but I'm not sure if I want to buy into more problems -
What's the advice of you all out there - I personally see only 2 choices

1 New Dmax LLY

2. Dodge Cummins 600ho -

Any advice ?

I would say with long list of add-on doodads you have you would be wise to buy the LLY and re-install on the new truck...LLY injectors are more service friendly and nothing beats the ride of a GM truck. Go with your instinct.

well, if you liked the truck you have than I say get the 04 with the LLY. Seems the changes on the new motor should reduce the injector problems

Does anyone have an idea how much would it cost to
put a new LLY engine in my 2002?

Too early to tell for me what I would do. Only 32K on mine. I really like the low stance of the GM 4x4s compared to the others. I also like the ride better. If I could have my cake and get to eat it I would like to see the new Cummins in front of my Allison. But so far no engine issues for me (knock on wood).

Like Tough Guy said, go with your instinct!

I'll be the dissenting voice  I had an '01 dmax for 93k miles. I have an '03 now because my wife insisted based on the cushy ride. I also have a pair of '03 Dodges with the Cummins, one has 40k miles, one 20k miles, zero problems. I can't say that for either of the dmaxes I had. Then I made my trip out west in the '03 Dmax. Running at speed across Nebraska, ie; 85-90, the duramax' milage goes to heck. I was getting 10 mpg pulling two snowmobiles. I was wishing I would have saved the $4000 and bought the 8100. If you have to have a diesel, I would definately buy the Dodge again, and this is my last duramax.

I have been told to drain the water out of the fuel every 2 weeks and this will cut down on injector problems.

Well I did it -- Ordered a Loaded to the gills LT Dmax for 04.5 - What the heck -
I had a difficult time deciding, but the Dodge camp could not convince me that the overall product was any better.. I'm banking on the new LLY being a better - more reliable engine , I'll let you all know in two years .....
So now the wait................

What kind of incentives should I be groveling for ?

ps. I have all sorts of goodies on the 01 I need to strip before I trade her in.....

I traded my 2001 2500 hd duramax in for a lly 2500 hd crew cab last week .I have just over 900 mile on it now 300 of that towing 5000 lbs. the lly has more snot in the mid rang compared to a stock lb7 duramax! I would be intersedt if Big TOW posted his fuel economy on one of his dodge truck runnig the same speed and weight... If it could run the same speed and weight ? I know the dodge camp gets good fuel economy empty but there playing with fire saying stock for stock they can keep up! long story short YOU will think you have made the best move after you get some seat time! I really like the changes GM made with the 2004.5 trucks!
