A word about prices

The question of prices for a new Duramax has come up from time to time in various parts of these forums. I thought I'd share my research here in Missouri in shopping for a new 2500HD 4X4, extended cab, short bed for whatever it may be worth.

First, they are very scarce around here. Our local dealers have only one or two of ANY configuration. But, even so, they are willing to deal. Second, note that the following prices are not sticker, but what the dealer has agreed to take.

A Chevy dealer has a new LLY, LS, automatic, extended cab, 4X4, trailer tow, power extending mirrors, power seat, and a few other extras (its on dealer order, actually), that he has priced to me at $36,001. That is before the $2500 rebate (expires March 1), and I got a card in the mail today that seems to be good toward a $1000 down payment - 24 hour test drive promotion of some sort. This looks to me like a really nice truck -no leather (I hate leather seats anyway), but scarcely stripped down; sticker is $40,900 something.

A GMC dealer located one for me at $35,540. Again, before the $2500 rebate and the possible $1000 down payment. It has an automatic, but that is about all. Does not even have carpet. Don't know the sticker on this one.

Hypothetically, one could go with the manual transmision and get a cash price of something like $31,000. And one presumes that a standard cab two wheel drive would be substantially less yet.

depending on how much your going to put down you maybe better off getting the 0% 5 year financeing! I saved 4400 in finace charges at 3.9% giveing up the $2500 deal! you will need to put down like 12 G's to make the 2500 deal work for you! striped down Dmax truck are rare!

Last month in Ontario I put $0 down and got 0% finacing for 4 years. Also got a healthy discount. The dealers are hurting and now seems like a good ttime to buy.

Just bought an 04 LS Crew Cab 4x4 D/A with leather in Texas. Found 4 dealers in DFW that would sell at dealer invoice. Got $1,000 cash back, $2,200 GM Card, and 0% financing for 60 months with 0 down. Sticker was $45,808 and ended up giving a hair under $38k.

As far as GM dealers, they were discounting 20% off of sticker.

I am glad this is there. I am going to the dealer tonight. I am hopin to get a Crew cab, short box, 4x4 with allison for under 40k out the door. Am I dreaming?

I was also priced a crew cab, 4X4, LS, Allison for $37,800. Had tow package and extending mirrors, but that was about it. But that includes some $500 rebate (whose purpose I am not clear about) which expires this weekend. It does not include the $2500 rebate, so it would be $35,300 if you are paying cash.

Barry D, do you mind sharing what you paid for your truck with a fellow Canadian? Just starting the process now and want to get a feel for it...

I was going to wait until the 04's came out, but I fell for the 24 hr test drive last fall on my 03. I got $5500 from the rebates at that time and ended up paying $28995.00 for a GMC SLE Reg Cab 4x4 electric shift with, locking diff, power seat, dual gen, power mirrors, forged wheels, fog lamps, and tow package.

Well it was a major pain in the butt- but I picked my new LLY Crew Short box tonight. The power is sweet!!

I was able to get several dealers to offer the truck at invoice less GM rebates. One played games on me- claiming to not honor the GM 24 hour test drive coupon-- and didn't tell me until we were in the middle of signing papers. I walked out. Owner called me personally 2 days later, apologized and offered to knock the $1000 off.

Trying to find a truck with the options you want is the hardest part. We looked for nearly 4 weeks before we found a couple of vehicles that would work. One of them- I signed all the papers, wrote the check, and the it was to be delivered on Monday (bought on Saturday). Got a call a couple of hours before I was to pick it up- telling me that the truck wasn't there-- nor would it be. The dealer they were trading with sold the truck out from under us.

Good luck. It has been 100 times more of a headache than I ever imagined.

nopower- I am going through the same thing. They finally found one to my specs and say I can pick it up Thurs. morning. I'll believe it when I see it. Man, what a process!!!

I was going through the same thing. I thought, If I am gonna pay 40k for a truck, its gonna HAVE to have exactly what I want. So I ordered one. I will see it in 4 to 6 weeks.!!!!
