Allison Whine

I previously owned a 2001 8.1/Allison 2500 4x4 and notice that there was a very noticable gear whine.... I now have a Dmax and cannot hear anything? Anyone know if Allison made changes or could it be because the Dmax runs substantially lower RPMs?

I still have both the sound of the diesel covers up some of it but I think there has been some revisions........check in drivetrain and search under whine............dave

My 03 Allison whines pretty loud, espically when cold. Been wondering if i should bother with taking it in.

Early on I was told Allison went back and cut the gears at more helical to reduce whine cause drivers were complaining about the whine, but doing this also weakens the gears. I dont know exaclty when they did this though. The only time I hear a whine from mine is in reverse.
