New Duamax Owner!!! Help!!!

Greetings,

I am a new Duamax owner, long-term GM fan. I am recently retired and have just purchased a 27' Jayco travel trailer (loaded weight 8500#). We plan to do long, cross-country travelling....east, west, northeast, southwest ...

Several questions: What are the "best" modifications that I should consider? And what does EGT mean ??? :confused:

I am in the same boat. I am going to pull a similiar weight trailer. I bought the DMAX so I won't have to anything to the truck. Might put gauges on, but that's all............. for now. smile.gif

The truck is rated to pull 12,000 pounds. A 8500 lb trailer sounds just right.

EGT = Exhaust Gas Temperatures. Best Mods is to get the Juice with Attitude from John Kennedy.

Look at my mods and I pull #9000 UNIT. In reallity you prolly don't need to do anything. Put having something like the Juice/attitude is sure nice and saves a heck of a lot of downshifting

I would run your truck stock and see if it does what you want first. I pull 10,000# of boat and the truck does more than I need! If you find that you want to go faster talk to the juice man!

Thanks to those who responded .....I pick up the new Jayco 278 FBS in about 3 weeks. I'm anixous to get in on the road and see how the Duramax pulls. I might be back on here seeking advice in 4 weeks.

I'm a little disappointed at the mileage while towing reported by some others. I had hoped to get something in the 12+ range......doesn't sound as though I should hold my breath. Running MT in the winter I usually get 16-17, but then the truck was purchased in 12/02 and only has 6500 miles .... maybe it will get better when it loosens up.

I have a 2001 3500 CC Longbed
I tow a 32' 5th wheel,grossing 20,000. I have never had to look at a F D's tail lights.
Leave your truck stock, less problems less expense. I lose 6 miles per,pulling a 6 % grade,in towhaul cruise on.

I've pulled a comparable tralier (27' 5th Wheel, 7500# empty) with mine stock, and your hoped for mileage is achievable, as long as you keep it around 65-70 MPH.

The mods you need are a B&W Turnover Ball + 5th Wheel Companion hitch, a very well made hitch that works great and leaves the bed floor unfouled when you aren't using it, and a Tenkosha Prodigy brake controller.

John Kennedy http://www.kennedydiesel.com sells the PRodigy, but I don't think and DieselPage advertisers sell the B&W.
