I was surfing the internet tonight and came across a site talking about an Inline 6-Cylinder Duramax 7800 that Chevy puts into it's 4500 series and larger medium duty trucks. I knew that Chevy put Duramax engines in those truck's, but I didn't know they were inline 6-clyinder's.I thought they were the same engine that's in the hd's.The Duramax 7800 275 hp version was rated at a whooping 860 pound feet of torque at 1450 rpm. The site didnt say but I wonder if Chevy puts allison's behind those engines. If so, maybe the allison can be fitted from factory to handle more torque in the hd's and be included in an upgrade for 2004.Below is some of what the site said, I will include the link to the site after it so everyone can go check it out.
'The Duramax Diesel 7800 is an "Inline 6" commercial truck diesel, currently used in well over 300,000 trucks worldwide. This new Duramax Diesel 7800 is now in Chevrolet Kodiak, GMC Topkick, and all GM's T-series.GM's confidence in the Duramax Diesel 7800 is high enough to make it the only engine available for the 2003 GMT 560 T-series Tilt Cab that will be available in early 2003.The Duramax Diesel 7800 is available in horsepower configurations ranging from 200 HP all the way up to the "High Torque" 275 HP Version.

The fellas I have spoken with say that ZuZu makes their own trans and it's junk. Since GM and Zu are almost one in the same, I would think that the GM versions probably run the same Zu trans.

I think that many have moved to the Hino (toytota) trucks.
