I met this awesome guy who is a engine design and assembly specialist at DMAX LTD. in ohio.

We seem to have a lot in common with bikes and performance stuff.

At the end of march im taking the duramax on a trip to Ohio to haul a few bikes to my tuner and i will stop by dayton to pay him a visit. He said he will give me a tour of the DMAX plant and show me some really neat stuff. I cant wait.

He already disclosed TONS on information to me on Duramax engines. There WILL be a new power plant for 2004 and he told me LOTS about it already. It will be released in April. He also told me that the dmax is currently way under tuned and has incredible potential with programing alone in stock trim like we have in our trucks.

He told me about the factory ECM also.. there are ways to make much more power out of the duramax without the need of chips and stuff. Factory ecm already has 3 program settings in it.. Special software is needed to change it.

I could get in to great detail on the stuff he told me about but this is a bunch of info he asked for me not to post publically.. Dmax competitors may be watching this board as well ya know..

Either way, he will help me tweak my max out next month and show me some really neat stuff at the plant.. I cant wait.

The only other hint I can give here is BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOST!!!!!!!! ;) :D :D

just to make sure im not throwing anyone off, the new powerplant will be the same 6.6 engine although there is a new 560 series cylinder head that will be used and it is much wider than the previous head. This is to be used in the HD versions..

Also, the 6.6 will have a much larger turbo on it in 2004 whick will provide up to 40 psi.

other than the turbo, the only other changes are to the programing, fuel pressure, injectors, ect..

I think for sure that I may have a EXCELLENT future parts connection here. :D

Having a person on the inside to talk to is definitely a win situation. I also heard long ago that the DMAX was built with the future in mind. I guess they was waiting for someone to edge them out before they dropped another bomb. I don't think F**d can go as far with a 6.0 block.
:D :D
WELL I GUESS THAT SETTLES THAT! tongue.gif

That is some cool info, makes me worry less about screwing something up with this predator. 40psi, that is alot of boost, hope they make it so you can hear it whistle, luv the whistle of a turbo. Gixx, yo get your truck finally?

If this does indeed play out, it's in line with what we have been hearing over the last year or so.

Heads redesigned to accomodate external injector access.

Possibly same turbo as the 6.0 PSD. Garret VVT.

Wonder if there will be any Allison changes?

BTW: Duramaxerado.... thanks

I'm glad to see GM stepping up and letting everyone know they've just scratched the surface. When someone talks about more power or more mods available for other diesels, I always astound them with the story about the Pike's Peak race truck with 600hp. Limited mostly by the tranny.

While I'm glad to see the power increase, I'm a little surprised by the 40psi boost. Didn't I get some warnings about 30 psi of boost or more being something to steer clear from? ;)

I told that GM engineer on the phone 30-32psi was good for the motor, keeps the smoke down, too. Never thought the maniac would shoot for 40psi... JUST KIDDING!!

I'm interested in the first spy photos of the turbo. Curious to see if it'll retrofit on '01-'03s, probably has a nice fat round 4" downpipe on it. Wonder if they've been looking over ATS diesel's shoulder...

I need to beef the tranny before I add any more power. She's right at the limit of what the tranny can take. My last trip over the mtns with my trailer I blew a tire on the trailer, but didn't find out till after I had set up camp in the dunes. My passenger was watching a DVD the whole way and we had no clue anything was amiss. Not that I'm complaining about the ride, capabilities, quiet, handling, or safety...

Regards, Steve
