These is a link to the fuel analysis reports on the Racor 2 micron filter.

The first report is the fuel analysis out of the pump and the second report is the fuel analysis after the Racor. Fuel is from my local Citgo station that I use all the time. The fuel is good stuff but unfortunately the fuel is very dirty.

This fuel has been used in my 99 VW TDI and after 55K miles the injectors were junk. Each nozzle has 5 spary holes. Each nozzle had at least 2 holes that the spary was very wide. One nozzle had one hole that did not spary at all. These injectors are not as high pressure as the Duramax, its only a 3400 psi injector. So you can imagine what can happen to a high pressure system.

I have worked with George Morrison on this and we both feel that dirt was the culprit for these injectors to only go 55K miles. I have about the same milage on the 6.5TD injectors and I will be pulling them out and testing them soon. Signs of blue and white smoke and smell of raw fuel on a cold start.

The Racor did very well for only a single pass.

> than 2 micron it was 94.3% efficient.
> than 5 micron it was 96.8% efficient.
>15 than micron it was 96.5% efficient.

If you notice the 2 micron filter took the fuel from 33,258,000 particles per gallon down to 1,900,000 particles per gallon.

You can imagine that 33 million particles per gallon would be like a sand blasting effect at 3400psi. So just think what it would do at 23,000psi. It would really do some cutting in a hurry.

We have a few out in the feild now and guys have been mounting them just ahead of the fuel cooler. Thelargest one thats available has a 90gph rating. So at this leave the restriction would almost non exsistent. I have the small 45gph unit on the 6.5TD and even in the cold weather it has been fine.

Greg,

Do I need to be a TDI club member to access the reports and can anyone access them? When I went to the links provided, I was asked for a username and password. I tried to sign up for a username and password, but the form asked for a TDI_Club name and member number (of which I have neither)

Is the filter media in this Racor 2 micron filter (for VW TDI) the same media that is in our Duramax Racor filter?

Try this link. I forgot that I had the pics on the TDI server. If we had UBB code here it would have worked.

Greg,

Is the Racor 2 micron the same "OEM" we get from you or DIS?

No it is not. If you go to my ad here on the DP you can see what I am using.

I have been following the threads on the fuel filter thing. Not much on numbers so what is the best filter. Confussed in Concord, Ca.

You have a good reason for your confusion in that there is no clear consensus of filter performance at this time; there are not comparative performance 'numbers' at this time. This is a work still in progress and more fuel filter analysis results will be forthcoming in the next few weeks. However, Greg's shared results are excellent for his Racor installation.

Greg,

Do you know if anyone has posted any pictures of where/how the Racor 2 micron filter is installed ?

The guys that have put them on are putting them about a foot or foot and a half in front of the fuel cooler. Just like srubrn did on his. If you want to use a Racor the part numbers are on my ad here on the DP.

Thanks for answering my question. I think I am going to give greg a call about the dual filter thing. How to mount it, brackets etc. etc.
