With 25368 miles showing on the odometer, I have 520.5 on the hour meter for an average MPH of 48.74.

I'm curious how this compares to other Duramax drivers numbers.

Larry- I can't get mmy hour meter to show. What are you doing to read it?

Madmax, you can only read the hourmeter with the engine off. You press and hold the mileage reset button and it will pop up.

Okay, you got me curious. Engine off, key out, you press and release the reset button and mileage will display for about 15 seconds and go off. You press and hold the button down for about 5 or 6 seconds and your hours will pop up. My numbers: 23,150 miles, 518.2 hours for an average of 44.67 miles per hour. tongue.gif

Nope, I hate to say it, Mackin, but I've got the worst of dial-ups, currently on at 49.2, usually 46.6 or 48! I *do* type at 60 wpm! Maybe you need to "Juice" your computer!! :D

Didn't even know the truck had an hour meter. 47011 miles, average MPH is 35.1. (Had to adjust the figures a bit as the last 22k are on 265/75's). Too many miles on curvy mountain roads I guess.

13334 km and 318.9 hours = 41.8 km/h or 26 mph
Long idle time in our frezing a$$ weather and working in the woods hauling logs lower the average alot. Of those 13334 km, at least 10000 km are highway miles.

2500HD- 20,957 miles 679.8 hrs = 30.8 mph

3500- 68,348 miles 2183 hrs = 31.3 mph

I to have quite a few hrs of idle time in winter. Snowplowing also racks up the hrs but not mileage.

I have 2284 mi with 83 hrs = 27.15 Avg. pretty low huh? Fun though. I do idle quite a bit. Mostly town driving, except for a trip to Cabelas and two to Denver and one to the Snowy Range Mountains and one to Glendo Resevoir.

WOW! 26.67!
That come from being laid off and only driving around locally. I just picked up weekend work 53 miles away. So in a few months that should go up. I generally commute @ 80+mph each way.

My log spreadsheet (below) calculates the average mph for each tank, and the overall average. After 17000 miles,

low = 25.9
high = 61.5
Overall average = 38.4

That average should creep up a bit this summer, as I begin my interstate show trips in two weeks.

Interesting stuff! Thanks for all the replies.

Here's another bit of trivia that may be of some interest to the "data collectors" out there:

My average MPG for the entire time I've had the truck is 17.42

That's for a total of over 25,000 miles with about 10% in city traffic and over 6000 miles of pulling my flatbed trailer. (loaded GCW is 16,000 plus or minus load variations).

For a long time I had my average MPH up to almost 55, and my MPG at 18.5, but city traffic jams and towing took it's toll!

By the way, the MPG might at first seem good, but my old '93 K2500 5.7L 5sp gasser got only 15% less under the same conditions!

I can see BROKER now... "I have 370,000 miles, with 5,967 hours, averaging 62 mph" :D :D

I am at 60,731 with 1431 hours. Averages 42.44 mph. Not too much idle time AT ALL, unless it is absolutely BAKING outside.

48,528 1209.8 = 40.11

Mass to Wis to Fla to Maine to Alaska back to Mass , then Texas , Cal and back . Approx. 70 % towing , remainder touristing plus some idle .

HOLY COW!!! I GOT AN AVERAGE OF 97.6 MPH!!! (governed speed)

NOT!

40588 miles, 1083.3 hrs, 37.47 average MPH.

About 25% of that with 33" tires, and 25% towing 12K. Less than 50% is highway miles (not much difference in CA!). I live in a mountain area, so much driving is below 35 MPH. I really expected to see it lower. I haven't checked my average since about 2500 miles. Then, the average was around 45'ish. Guess lately I've been watching the fuel gage more, and the speedo less (but not much). My fuel mileage went up as well, and tires wear way better. All of this subject to change if I get juiced (tempting!).

OK. I'll say it again... Somehow, the Canadian instrument package/programming MUST be goofed!

I'm currently at 52140KM or 32400 miles since delivery in December 2000. Hourmeter indicates 1540.2 !!!

That makes the average 21 mph. Considering that better than 80% of my time is spent on 65MPH highway and I'm not doing anything excessive in the way of idling --- this doesn't make a lot of sense. I've verified that the odometer is "bang on" within 1/10th of a kilometre over a distance of 10km.

I need some feedback from the Canadian owners out there to confirm --- and someone to explain to me how the hourmeter works (picks up its info...)

Regards.

GreyPower3500:

Somehow I thought my average was going to be higher. The KMs seems right, so it must be some wise GM engineer implemented the exchange rate in the hour meter so that an American hour equals 1.6 Canadian hours... go figure?

2002 3500 with 138,695 miles and 3583.4 hours = 38.7 mph. Under "normal operating conditions and normal maintainance" how many hours should the duramax live?

MaxACL

130,000 Horizontal, at least a quarter mile vertical. Hours unknown as it's still in the shop.

I new mine would be the lowest. It is only about 1.5 miles to the Dealership and about 3 miles to one farm and 5.5 to the other and that is the extent of my driving. The rest is mostly through the pastures except when we take a 1000 mile trip to the sand dunes twice a year.

I'm new here (2nd post) and new to these trucks....thats why I'm here.....but I think there may be a flaw in all this. I'm basing my comment on how the hour meter on my tractor works..... It's function is to determine service times.....The tractor's meter reports hours as they would be if the tractor was run at governed speed (2650 rpms) constantly. In other words, if I ran the first hour at 2650, it would report 1 hr., if I ran it at 1325 rpm for an hour, it would report only 1/2 hour. Is this the same as the meters your using? If so, determining aver speed would not apply would it? I'm too old to be thinking this hard.....time for a nap. ;)

I think the hour meter you mentioned works off of the tachometer. I believe the ones on these newer vehicles are clocks that measure the time the engine is running.
