I towed my 32 ft Fifth Wheel for the first time today with the Duramax. What a blast. The GCVW was 18,200. I ran 70 mph up hill and down. I do have the predator and I had the 60 hp setting in the truck. What a combination I am still amazed at how easy it handled the load. I was wondering why Diablo recommends the 60 hp setting for light towing only? The highest EGT temps I saw was 1090 going up about a 1 mile grade. Maybe James can tell us. Every thing seemed to work fine all temps in the operational range.

That is very surprising since I have the Predator and when I tow my 7K# load, I hit 1,200 on the pyro on slight inclines (at about 70MPH) while in the tow setting (40HP). On the steep grades it will go to 1,400 easily. My probe is pre-turbo on the pass. side manifold. I have the high performance (a.k.a fast reaction) probe from Autometer and their gauge.

I still have the stock exhaust so maybe this is the difference. Where is your probe?

I have the BD Xmonitor with the probe mounted in the passenger side manifold. I am running a 4" DPP exhaust.

What version of Predator are you using.

I didn't notice where you live, this explains how cool your EGTs are... ;)

Believe me.....Alaska has nothing to do with it.

I would ask BD to send you another unit. That pyro doesn't sound very accuate from the location of your thermocoupler. I could hit 1300 with my bone stock truck. Its mounted in the pass. manifold also. Something isn't right. The guys at BD are very good. They will fix you up.

Sounds to me like the 4" exhaust is doing its job. Diablo and Edge all recommend going to 4"just for this reason.

Thats the main reason I bought my JK 4", its on to juice...NEXT

I have a KD 4" exhaust on my 3500. I could hit 1500 on level 2 with the juice uphill towing a heavy load in Alaska.

I highly dought any 4" exhaust is cooling his EGT's that much with a box, towing heavy uphill.

Bush Pilot,
Do you have any EGT numbers without the Predator installed? With or without 4"?

What hill were you running? Turnagain Pass? Thompson Pass?

I just picked up my 5th wheel at the service cntr.125mi away.1st time towing with Preditor had on 65,also have 4" exhaust.EGT was 800-1000 cruising 70,but no hills in fla.Did have a problem with downshifting when I slowed to around 60 & tryed to ease it back up.

800-1000 is about what I see in the 40Hp setting while towing, on flat ground. Add a little incline and it goes up real quick.

Nate - Could be but I doubt it. 18K GCVW going up hill in the 65HP setting and only 1100 EGT... I agree with Maverick, something is off. I can easily get to 1000 EGT empty, climbing little foothills in my area. If his gauge/probe are correct, I want the exhaust he has
