Same but different. Same pin/connection etc, just no standby speed unless programmed in, and IF you program, it will run funky and oscillate between balancing and not on the fuel injection map.

Good to hear you like the 02!!! We finally got another happy camper here. :D Anyway check your mail, I sent you a copy. Kennedy is right, installation wise there is no difference between a 2001 or a 2002, you just loose the 850 standby speed.

Sent you all a copy. The high idle mod is simply added into the ecm as a idel up to run a pto. It's supposed to make the hydraulics faster. What some of us use it as is to make the truck warm up faster when it's really cold out (or cool the a/c for that matter), and idel the truck up to prevent wash-down of the cylinder walls. I am sure there are tons of reasons but they best is, "hey, look what I added to my truck".....

From reading the posts I'm not sure if the high-idle requires some sort of mod kit or simply redoes some of the existing circuitry. DslPower, I'd be interested in the mod info for the 2002. I drive down the mountain each morning and engine temp stays less than 110o for my first 10 miles of driving.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Folks,

New to the group. I do not have a Duramax, but I just thought I would share an idea or two. The actual reason for getting the high idal, is for when it is cold out. In the cold, diesel can jell, and the carbon can separate from the diesel. When that burns, that creates TONS of black smoke. This might be another reason why some of you are writing in about having problems with black smoke. It does not damage the engine, but is not vary pleasant, both because of the black smoke and the odor, associated with the burning carbon. As some of you have already stated, it also does warm the engine up faster, thus heat the cab faster, and air condition it faster as well.

Do you get the high idle mod for the 2001 through GM or someone else.

Can you set it up to high idle all the time...at stop lights, etc.?

Thanks

It isn't some kit that you actually buy, but you can have your dealer install it for you. You simply need to have a switch and a GM micro pak terminal that plugs into the EMC. Provide power to this and she will idle up. It will only idle when set and the truck has to be in park if it's an automatic or if its a manual the brake has to be set, if you would like I can send you a copy of the instructions if you provide me with your E mail address.

Can someone please post the location of the terminal used to enable the high idle circuit. What colour or location or how do I find it. It sounds to me like you just apply 12V+ to enable it. I have an 03.

Thanks for your assistance
