There's a company called UltimatePD that makes a replacement airbox lid and tube. They claim better hp, flow, response, etc.

I saw a post where someone with a gasser reported great results ,just wondering if any diesel owners had tried it.

This would allow the use of an Amsoil air filter with a higher flow airbox/tube.

Here it is: http://www.ultimatepd.com/

Isn't the air box the same on the 8.1? As the Duramax.

The airbox is the same as the heavy duty air filter that I ordered on my 1999 gas truck. I believe it was a $25 option back then. The AC filter numbers are the same as on my 2001 Duramax.

Hey Joe G,

Was there actually a housing difference with the gasser high cap air cleaner? When my dad was shopping we were lead to believe it was just a different filter...

I ordered one for my Suburban. Haven't received it yet. Supposedly it is better then the K&N FIPK. I think getting rid of the baffles etc. is what makes it better then stock. IF you want one cheaper, there is a GP from fullsizechevy.com happening now through April 19th. Price is $179-199 depending on which one you get. It is $20 cheaper ($159-179) if you don't want/need the filter. I do not know if it will work with the DMAX or not, but others who have it for the 5.3l engines really like it.
