$2.99 here also, only because thats the maximum amount the fuel pumps are capable of charging (small town "mom & pop" gas station). He is expecting new parts today to allow the pumps to charge more per gallon, and will be charging $3.15 per gallon.

Diesel $3.09/gallon here in the Seattle area. Gas is $2.95/gallon

Diesel is always more than gas in Washington State. Increased fuel mileage offsets price though. Still cheaper to run with a diesel vehicle.

Filled up last night for the first time since returning from SLC.

$2.999, down from 3 and a half bucks! At a Chevron, no less. The other name brands in the area are still up there, but should follow suit. After some checking, it seems Chevron is the lowest of the name brands in my area, by a fair margin. Hmmmmm.

$3 a gallon is still not acceptible, but it's a start. Heard this morning the oil price is down, and falling.

So do we have a good reason why diesel is still going up as Gas prices seem to be going down. It seems that as the price of gas rises, so does the price of diesel. But when Gas prices drop diesel prices don't move. Around here the price of diesel is a good twenty cents more than premium gas. The local news has no clue on this subject as they only report on gas prices, as if diesel didn't exist.

DIESEL UP FROM 2.66 LAST WEEK TO ANYWHERE BETWEEN 2.99 AND 3.31. GAS DOWN FROM 2.99 TO 2.66. THERE ARE 2 REASONS, 1 A LOT OF THE REPAIR PEOPLE COMING TO THE HURRICANE STICKEN AREAS USE DIESEL VEHICLES AND 2 THE COLD SNAP. DIESEL HAS TO COMPETE WITH HOME HEATING FUEL, AGAIN.

And we aren't being taken for a ride. All three are Hess Oil,Co. owned stations, all within 15 miles of each other, all get deliveries from same carrier.
I e-mailed them a few years ago about the different prices they have between stations. Their answer was; We appreciate your business but we can't discuss are marketing!
The other kicker is when using a credit card, the pumps shut off at $50.00 then you must hang up the nozzle, reinstall credit card, then pump again. If you need more than $100.00 of fuel the pump will not accept your card a third time. Now you must go to the attendent in the booth and leave your card. What a hassle>

These prices are getting to be a god dam joke, regular gas drops down .50-.60 cents and yet diesel stays the same?? Why are the trucking companies not making a bigger stink about the prices? Why is diesel more than regular if it goes through less refining processes?

Gas here in SW Michigan falls again to $2.49/gal as Diesel continues to rise to $3.45/gal (a 37 cent increase in 3 days).

When will it stop? When the trucking industry unites and parks all those frigging semi-trucks on as many routes as possible and shuts this country down until those in control get it through their thick skulls.

Utter chaos, yep millions of Americans unable to get to work or buy food as the roads turn into parking lots. Yeh, another New Orleans (post Katrina) all over the entire country, yep that should do it.

I'm also sick of it, paid $2.459 tonight in the wifes van, and Diesel is 2.889 here in town.(I guess I should feel lucky at $2.889)I checked the "Flying-J" web site on fuel prices at all their facilities and it looks like most are over $3.00 per gallon, with New Jersey comming in lowest at $2.799 for Diesel. One of our drivers mentioned $3.399 in Maryland today near DC.
Why are the trucking companies still running and not complaining? Fuel surcharge! Price of fuel goes up, and they add it to the cost of shipping. Who pays for their fuel? We do!! In what we buy at the super market, or anywhere. So they keep on-a-truckin. ;)

According to the CEO of Exxon/Mobile, the commodity traders speculate on what effect storms and world events might have on oil prices. This can produce a daily fluctuation in the price of diesel fuel at the pump.

The regional gas/diesel suppliers have taken to monitoring the commodity price, then adjust the fuel cost upwards if they can justify it by the commodity index. The problem with this strategy is that they don't reduce the prices as quickly when oil prices fall, but only if their local competitors lower theirs first.

The biggest problem with the high oil prices (IMHO) is that the oil companies aren't operating in a free market environment. The various mergers over the past decade have consolidated their control.

Most domestic oil comes from public lands and territorial waters. Seems to me the public ought to have more leverage.

This whole gas/diesel price run-up is similar to the electricity rigging that happenned in California and other western states about 4 years ago.

We used to have several regulated utility companies that operated in the state and there was ample supply of electricity. Then,,,,, the market was somewhat deregulated, utility companies sold some of their generating facilities to out-of-state energy companies. Then the shortages appeared and we started seeing companies like Enron appear on the scene. The markets were manipulated by "traders" and the Western States energy users took it in the shorts.

I am almost of the opinion that the government (fed or state) should step in and build a few key refineries around the country to supply a "surge capacity" (and thus possibly dampen out the price spikes). They already have oil reserves in stock, they could use these as their pipeline. I say "almost" above, because I am not sure if either form of government is capable of running such an operation.

Really what this country needs is a "long term" energy vision of where we need to be in 10, 15, 20, 25,,, years. The problem is once you try to formulate such a strategy, it becomes so riddled by special interest lobbying that it becomes not strategy at all.

So in the end, we will be managed by crisis instead of by plan.

Ask some of them what happened to getting higher price fuel in & then raising prices and they say when they pay high & competitors lower price, they have to do same. BIG FAT LIE! Most around here get from two - eight fuel trucks @ week.
Still come out cheaper with diesel in my case compared to my gas vehicles we use for work. Can pay 25% more for diesel & still be ahead of gas getting 12-13 mpg.

:D Glad I didn't fill up yesterday. :D

Milwaukee Wisconsin:

Gas about $2.59 for regular.
Diesel between $3.09 and $3.84 depending on what station you go to. Yeah the spreads that big, no idea why, it's not based on brand or anything like that.

Anyone else think the price of deisel is being deliberately inflated so they can keep Gas lower? When gas goes up the public screams. When deisel goes up industry just passes on the cost and it's guys like us that get screwed. Even UPS puts a fuel surcharge on every package they deliver now. Seems like the Oils companies found out it's easier to gouge on deisel.

Of course prices for everything will go up soon enough, but nobody seems to put 2 and 2 together on that.

As of 11/1/05, the price of Diesel fuel in western Massachusetts is $2.77-2.87, gasoline is $2.29-2.59.

And this is a region where oil heating is predominant, so the so called competition between Diesel fuel and heating oil is not as big a deal as we are being led to believe.

Clearly, the midwest is getting hosed on prices, but Texas!?!?! What is up with that? I guess that supports the idea that it is the speculators that are really screwing all of us. One wonders if there is a way to screw back.....

I, too, am surprised by the silence of the trucking industry. What gives?

One answer is more refineries. The crude is there, but our maxed out ability to refine it is what is killing us. If one refinery is down for maintenance or damage, the price shoots up, because other refineries cannot pick up the slack. Add to that the absurd requirement for fuels tailored to specific regions in the U.S., and you have the complete recipe for disaster.

I heard on the news this morning that the CEO's of Dutch Shell, BP and Exxon/Mobil had to appear before Congress today to explain why their companies posted profits exceeding 22 BILLION dollars while American consumers were paying record prices.

I paid $2.489 today at Loves on the Gila reservation just south of Phoenix off of I10. They've been going down steadily for over a week. Nice that it's on my commute.

Oct 18 my wife and I headed to Las Vegas,Nevada. November 7th I drove the 1,000 miles back home. Paid as high as 3.50 a gallon in Grand Junction, Colorado and as low as 2.59 a gallon in Rawlins, Wyo at the Flying J. That Flying J was 3.09 a gallon on my way down to Vegas. That station went down 50 cents a gallon in that time frame. That was a nice change. 2.69 a gallon right now in Sheridan,Wyo.

I just returned on a Eastcoast run on I-95 to Coco, FLA. diesel was $3.11 in Coco, $2.27 in GA, $2.27 in VA and $2.59 here in MD. I noticed at a Davis/Exxon fuel stop the diesel was .20 high at the Exxon pumps than at the Davis pp's. Same stop just oppisite sides of the building. My son stopped a guy at the Exxon pp's and told him. He was a local and never realized the station had two different prices.

K-zoo, MI

Meijer and Admiral at US131 Plainwell exit 2.47 when I fueled up this week.

Gougers down on I-94 and Sprinkle in Kzoo(Speedway both sides of e-way, Citgo and BP including Meijers, Speedway and Marathon up on Gull Rd all between 2.95 and 2.99.

Diesel gouging all the way... Why is it 2.41/gal 20 miles away and right on e-way exit as well.

So goes another letter to the State of MI....
