I know you cant get an acurate MPG on one tank but..............................The day I bought my truck, the dealer gave me a voucher to go and fill her up.

I filled it to the point to where I could just see the fuel at the bottom of the filler neck.

I ran 350 miles (still had 1/8) tank left........Filled it to the exact same point on the filler neck.

Took 20 gallons on the nose..............17.5 MPG on the first tank seems mighty darn high....But I aint bitchin.....I have a base model truck, so that is calculated by hand.

And NO......I did not baby it....I tend to break a vehicle in the way I am going to drive it..........That 350 miles was 100% around town.

Hell of alot better than the 9 mpg I was getting on my 04 2500hd gasser

Hi Jeff, I assume you have a new Dura-Max LLY. That seems good for a new truck around town. Keep checking each tank full, which is what I did on my 95 Suburban for the first 4-5 years. I kept a log in the truck, with mpg. price per gallon, where I purchased the fuel etc. Sure lets you know when something is going wrong. Good luck with your new ride. I'll have mine shortly. ;)

I just got back from Florida with mine and got 19-20 mpg with just the truck and no trailer..My S-10 with a 4.3 only gets 21 on the road..

You'll find a "Sweet Spot" in the road RPM where you seem to get the best mileage. My 2004.5 LLY gets 17 around town as a matter of fact. I've checked it so many times around town I just accept it. I think it might get a little better unloaded on the road. Haven't been there yet.

These LLY's seem to be very consistant, I am also getting 17.2-17.5 mpg. It has only been three tank fulls but I'm happy with that. I just wish it had the power of my 03'.

Hey jeff1216, if you ever get that Dmax down to 9 mpg, you'll be towing heavy and pushing hard to get there. I keep a log book in every vehicle I own. Every gallon of fuel, every oz of oil added, all changes, etc. It pays off. Your mileage may just get a little better after you get about 20,000 of so miles on it. Mine keeps going slowly up, getting close to 49,000 now. Ranges from 17-20 empty and 12-15 towing and offroading through the canyons.
