I went down to purchase the new 97385488 fuel filter as noted in the fuel filter recall thread. The parts man says that number is an old one and the filter he gave me is a AC 98017645 aka TP1298B. Is this a duel element filter too?

Does it have a black ring painted around the base of the filter? If it has it is the new duel pleat filter.

It would seem then that you have the old model filter.

Your DP vendors can save you the aggravation by ensuring that you get the correct unit. Myself, I make sure that this is ALL that I have on hand...

The filter that you have is the latest filter. The "B" model is the new longer filter - more filter area and more area to collect water. It no longer comes with a black stripe. It is also a dual pleat filter.

I took my '03 in a couple weeks ago and they did tell me that the original # that was posted on the DP earlier had been replaced. My new one doesn't have the black ring either. They did a good job, no mess. They replaced both my "camper mirros" as the right one would not always retract.

Go right to the horse's mouth. They are different, other than inking.

Look into the water sensor adapter hole in the bottom, at the internal plate. The new(er) filters, with dual media, will have two embossed rings, and the older single media filters will have one. The rings are between the outer wall, and the inner dimple. Very obvious, once you have a look.

[Credit goes to JK. He pointed that out to me a while back]

Just to clarify we are now on version #3 of the duramax filter...

First one : single pleat

Second one : dual pleat with "black ring" painted around it to differentiate it from original filter.

Third one : Just released new longer dual pleat filter. (this one has no black ring around it) Lubespecialists is stocking this filter and it is shown on their web page....

WHAT'S PART # ON THE LONGER DUAL PLEAT FILTER? AND WILL IT FIT ON THE 01 MODELS?

Hello everybody. Another question I hope to get answered. Just bought the filter today, #98017645, this is the new filter, 3rd generation. Right or wrong? Will the water sensor on the old original filter screw on to the new 98017645 filter? Hope to get a reply from a good source. Thanks

Same WIF sensor.

Latest filter has a double step at the WIF end.

Hello everyone. Last Friday I was looking at my new filter and thinking how easy it may be to have a extra WIF sensor and have the new filter and sensor together and ready to go. Part # 97261720. Purchased @ Chev. dealer in Bethel, Ohio, but any dealer can get. Keep the Faith.

I always have a complete filter assembly on hand, The WIF sensor cast about $35.00 and while you in the spending mood, get one of those in WIF wrenches From JK they work great and they are pretty as well. :D :D
