How to determine a SHORT or LONG tranny shaft TH400

HELLO,

Looking into used gear vendors. A determining factor in buying one is whether i have a short or long transmission shaft on my TH400. Maybe more importantly is to find out definitively if I have a TH400??? I don't REALLY know?

SO. . .What is the length of a short shaft?(BTW i did a group of thread searches and came up with nothing on this topic)

It's an 86 military box van w/6.2. I know it's a 3spd.

I'm reasonably certain that TH-400s only come in two lengths. The long tailshaft and housing are the 2WD version while the short version mates with a tranfer case in the 4x4 version.
