Has anyone made EXPERIENCE or differences in driving behavior / torque / performance increase or -loss between the two intake manifolds ( DUAL-plane vs. SINGLE-plane )?
Only n/a ( NON-turbo) engines!
According to my research, the dual-plane intake manifolds deliver the highest torque at low speeds. the single-plane has a little more power but loss of torque!
Can anybody confirm this?
The torque peak in a diesel engine comes at a relatively low engine rpm. In a non-turbo 6.2L diesel, that torque peak appears at about 2000 rpm, according to the torque curves published by GM back in the day.
What this means is that high rpm engines (gasoline) benefit more from hi-flow intake and exhaust modifications than do diesel engines.
I don't know of a direct comparison between the two different intake manifolds, but our Dr. Lee wrote about his experience after having replaced an EGR dual-plane intake with a non-EGR single-plane intake manifold - and added a new timing set and remanufactured fuel injection pump all at the same time. Acceleration times were measured using a GTech performance meter. 0-60 mph performance went from 11.8 seconds to 11.1 seconds.
An intake that didn't have the complication of EGR plumbing likely helped, but it would be hard to determine from what Dr. Lee reported to what degree just the change in intakes may have changed things.
