Dual Alternator Option??? 2002

Hey Guys:
Is there a dual alternator option? I never saw this as an option when i ordered my Super-truck. If so any info? can i add it if he beast is not built yet, should be supposed to arrive in 2-3 weeks.

Yes there is a dual alt. option I ordered it back in May of 2001 for my 2002. At that time the dealer did not have the option number. but they should have it now.

The 2001 RPO code for dual 105A alts is K65, don't know if it is the same for the 2002s.

Acidburn,Yes the dual Alt. option is available it is RPO code K65, SEO code 8X5. I ordered My 2002 K3500 with it.The code went in as the SEO code 8X5.GMC just picked up my order which was place 11/14/01.I was told the truck my be ready in five weeks.Hope this helps you.

I should have mentioned that the serp belt arrangement is different on the '01s vs. the '02s so it is likely some of the parts to do this are different from '01 to '02.

Serp belt part # for 02 no cal emmisions is 97300655.6pk3455 length it took me a week to get this # I just got done doing my 02 dual alt's and everything went smooth.All the parts listed from MDRAG are correct.

I've not seen the serp belt routing on an '02 yet. Did you have to add the idler pulley assembly on your '02? If so, then you are saying the only thing different from '01 to '02 is the serp belt part#? The alt 4 positon connector is still wired to ECM position C1-32 on the '02s? Thanks.

This may be a dumb question but here it goes anyway. What advantage would dual alternators offer on a standard HD truck with dual batteries? I could understand if you had something that required a great deal of electricity like emergency lights or a slide-in camper. Under normal circumstances I would think one alternator would do a sufficient job of recharging the batteries.Just curious.

Truckin:Its real cool and not too many other people can say they have it.Just kidding,I pull a 5ht wheel and it has 3 batt's and I will probably add A nice stereo with amps and some extra lighting.I did the add on myself so the cost was low.

I tried the belt# on gmpartsdirect and no-go. Did you get it from your dealer? Also, where did you get the wiring harness for the second alt? Did you pull it off a junked truck like Mdrag?

There is no reason i should not have a back up electrical supply on a 40K$ truck, was my reasoning, winch, etc, and bitchen factor.

Bmacs:They dont list the belt # in any Gm books etc,becouse its too new.I had A friend at a GM dealer run a locater on 02 D/A's in USA on fed model's At dealerships close to colo with the dual alt option.Only came up at a dealer in south dakota,So I called and very nicelly asked A sales man to go to said truck look under hood and call back with belt #.20 mins later he did and thats the only way I could get #.Gm was no help.As for the harness just order it for sub or truck or blazer 99-02 their all the same.Good luck Steve
