    Question

I have a 2001 2500hd with around 80,000 miles on it. For whatever reason I now want to put synthetic in it but i'm not sure if it is a good thing to switch with this many miles.
I don't post very often because i can usually find everything i want with the search feature but this time i couldn't locate anything.
    Thanks for the help

As long as the engine is healthy, it's never too late. In the old days it wasn't recommended to switch oils because the gunk accumulation inside an engine might be dissolved or dislodged by synthetic, and then quickly plug up the engine. But the petroleum oils available in the last 20 years or so don't seem to produce accumulated residue inside engines.

Clean running diesels combined with the long drain intervals now recommended seem made for synthetic oils.
