Thread: Front bumpers on Chevy diesel pickups

    Post

On all of the diesel chevy pickups I see going around, all of them have two holes cut in the front bumper.I don't see any gas versions with this kind of a bumper. What is the purpose of these two holes? Is it for more air flow?I see this on the 93'and later chevy pickups.

I have a GMC 6 liter 2500HD and it has the two holes cut into the bumper. Might be for cooling. The oil cooler is right behind the grille and so is the temp sensor for the rear view mirror.

This is supposedly unique to the new HD's and 3500's. The 2500's (LD) I've seen didn't have them. In prior years, it was unique to only the diesels, any size. I'm not certain what year they started, though.

My 95 GMC 1500 (L56) has the holes in the bumper. I see the GM's all the time with holes in the bumpers but never have noticed that they were gassers.

I've seen some 2500 (non-HD's)Silverados without the holes. I think it depends on options.
