I'm contemplating a purchase of a new VW Jetta TDI, because of the great gas mileage with the manual.

Anyone with VW, or VW diesel, experience want to share about...
ease of maintennance of the engine?
    " " of the car?
    reliability of the engine?
    " " of the car?
    anything else?

Cool TDI site! I test drove a new VW Jetta
TDI 5spd the other day. The salesman could
not tell me if it was intercooled or not
(he didn't have a clue what it was) ..
Maybe I can find out more on that site...

Do it Andy. I own a Jetta TDI and it has saved me $$$ with the great fuel mileage that it gets. The Upsolute chip for these engines are packed full of power. Yes they are intercooled. The TDI forum was down for a few days but it is back running again with a lot of members there to help you with any question you have and best of all its free. Even some of the advertisers from here are members on Freds TDI club.

I am getting ready to buy a used 99 Beetle TDI. Hopefully I will have one of them bought this weekend. I am looking forward to it. This is my way of having a new diesel without spending 40k.

I have a 1999 VW Jetta TDI and I have also had a 1994 and a 1991 VW Jetta and from my experience you won't regret buying one. They have great fuel mileage and I haven't had any major trouble at all(knock on wood).
