I've got some more technical stuff....
(some of this could be a repeat)

32 valve pushrod V8
Bore and Stroke 3.74 x 4.13 per cylinder displacement of 45 ci (.745 L)
Compression Ratio 18:1
Cast iron block with bedplate design for extra stiffness.
Heads are cast iron.
Crankshaft is forged steel.
Hydraulic lash overhead valves.
Gen 2 fuel injection... electrohydraulic common rail with pressures as high as 24,000 psi.
Siemens injectors with pilot injection.
Unaided starting at 15 degF, -40 with block heater.
Glow plugs.

Garret Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) and cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR).
The terminology for the turbo technology is Electronic Variable Response Turbocharging (EVRT)
The turbo has a set of variable vanes that are adjusted electronically to optimize boost over a wide range of speeds and loads.

The cooled EGR system has a fast acting spool valve to instantaneously modulate the flow of cooled exhaust gases back into the combustion chamber. This lowers the temperature at which combustion initiates and thus reduces the formation of oxides of nitrogen during the combustion process.

Oil filter is a cartridge type from Racor mounted in the "V" of the block just forward of the turbocharger. It keeps the oil self contained like a printer cartridge for drip free maintenance. Similar filter will be on the PowerTorq transmission.

Five speed automatic designed to handle all the torque the engine offers.
First gear 3.09
Second gear 2.2
Clutch elements actuated by solenoids and computer.
PTO can operate in all gears.

Still saying 350@3300 and 600@2000 but torque substantially less at low rpms.

Sounds like a nice high tech powerhouse.

Hopefully Ford has a better handle on the EGR design than Volkswagen's TDI. As I recall even Dodge was delaying an EGR implementation one year. But it does sound like a power plant.

Thanks Randy, I resemble that remark...

But let me stand by it. As soon as the GM HD's came out, Ford upped it's spec's to rival GM by a miniscule amount just to be on top.

That without really telling how they did it. I believe they simply revised the numbers.

That is Ford style.

Randy, aren't you the guy that doesn't subscribe to these newer diesels? Including your own Ford brand?

I dont think ford started the leapfrogg'n, considering the powerstroke has lead in power from 94.5 till the duramax came out, seems like the d/a did the leap frogging...

its not necessarly the new diesels as what the EPA is turning the diesel engines into... I dont like the current powerstroke due to the issues with the fuel system. The duramax is the "latest and greatest" at this time, so its more of a test bed for the aftermarket companys, I like the power numbers you guys are getting with a box, and it looks like the tranny issues are starting to get worked out. That tells me it will take the aftermarket co's around 6 months to get the G2's rolling with the same style upgrades you're getting...
I love technology but Im not too proud of the EPA....
