They are claiming it will be available shortly at 250/525. Powertrain rated at 250 HP?
I'm confused.

hoot,
The G2 design sounds nice with the exception of EGR. I understand VW has had some problems making the TDI's EGR work with America's lower quality diesel fuels.
Ford has apparently upped the 2002 auto equipped PSD to 525ft-lbs with a mid year software change. I haven't heard what the horsepower is.
On edit: the initial '02 PSD auto was 250hp/505ftlbs. So something doesn't add up unless Ford programmed for more fuel (torque) and lowered the RPM redline.

They are stating 250 HP.
250,000 durability
Hydraulic lifters.
EGR
Variable vane turbo possibly. (not sure if it's just the concept truck)
The new 5-speed reads just like the Allison. Features are identical.
Boy was I confused by that story. I thought it was the g2.

In the document Hoot linked to above it states.....
"Beginning this month, ford will offer a new best-in-class torque Power Stroke 525, which delivers 525 foot-pounds of torque at just 1,600 rpm on automatic transmission equipped Super Duty models. The updated powertrain is rated at 250 hp."
So is this the G2 or just an updated current offeing PSD?

That's what was so confusing. It's not the G2. It was just a blurp in the middle of a "concept" story.
In other words, old news.
-
I had heard that the G2 was supposed to be 305\555.

From what I understand, Ford currently ships a 525 lbs. of torque with their 6 speed. They now are shipping this with the automatics. Still the 7.3L.
Maybe GM is ready to up the torque on the Duramax to 530 lbs.
-
i think its great that ford finally sees the light," to put duramax engines and allisons in their trucks too"

The new G2 is tentatively rated at 320/575 across the board. The new common rail Cummins for 2003 is tentatively rated at 305/560. These are preliminary numbers which may or may not see changes before introduction. The new 5 speed auto in the Ford is NOT an Allison. It is built by Ford and will have a torque rating of 600ftlbs and 650 by mid year. The complete valve body is being replaced by solenoids. Expect GM to up the power figures on the DMAX since both of the new trucks listed will have it beat in both HP and TORQUE. I sure love competition...CJ
