Who has replaced them. I now have 60+K on the rig, and I am going to add shocks about the same time I put a fueling box on again.

What shocks. The million dollar question huh. Majority of MY driving is on the interstate, unloaded. Somebody help me. Bilsteins? Rancho 9000's? I am looking for a SMOOTH ride, but I do tow in some cases. What do you guys think?

It does not sound like you need the adjustability of the Rancho's so you may want to consider Bilstein's. I think they are less expensive as well. But if you do not like the ride Bilsteins provide Rancho's are adjustable.

I put the Bilsteins on my truck and am very happy with the ride quality. Did not stiffen the truck up but did give more control.

I really cant compare the bilstiens to rancho but the ranchos on my truck will give you a good ride and are adjustable for the times you are towing . they will take the see-saw ride away when turned up to 4~5 and at 2~3 its nice and smooth for a truck with 9200 gvw! I replaced my stock shocks at 4000 miles to be honest with you the rear shocks are just to soft and the front are almost ok(stock) If your looking to get out cheep do just the rear all 4 stock shocks are gas shocks. mine had the cheep black shocks not the factory tuned bilstiens

Cool

Alli-max,

I had the RS9000s on my '92 Suburban and was happy with them. I'm going to put the Bilteins on my 3500 - just to try something different.

Thumbs up

Get the automatic adjustables, whatever brand.
Higher price but worth it. I go from full load to no load and I don't have to touch a thing.

Where are you guys getting the best deals on shocks ? Lets have it ..... On Rancho and Bilsteins ....... Leaning to the Rancho's ..... Had factory Bilsteins on a ZR2 Blazer stiff puts it lightly ...... Perhaps with more weight ,hence a 3500 , they might settle in ......When or does that buy 3 get one free thing end on Rancho?

^...Mac, if you'll chop that machine down to the height of a grasshopper's a$$, you won't have to worry about shocks.

mackin...

IIRC, the buy 3 get 1 deal is thru June at 4 wheel parts.

So the Bilsteins are the BEST for a smooth ride?

Thumbs down

I had Bilstein's on my Tahoe and took them off because of excessive body roll and lousy bump slapping. Put on Edelbrock IAS's instead, they helped the Tahoe a lot over the Bilsteins and were actually smoother over the bumpys. If I had to change a shock on these trucks I'd change to 9000's without a thought.

I'm not sure if just shocks are the real answer with these HD trucks though. Too much "bounce" on uneven roads is my problem. It's in the rear suspension. I'm wondering if those rubber "socks" might be worth a try. I put 500 lb in the back and it rides much, much better. It's the rear suspension that needs adjusting more than anything else.

Any thoughts?

Here I thought I was going to bypass the waiting period by going with the Ranchos and I have to wait for fronts from Rancho . This is the E-MAIL I got ====>your order was shipped 5/29/02. the front shocks are a new item and are shipping direct from rancho. please allow 7-10 days.

Any of you GENTS get them yet ? Same issue ? WTF

Well I'll get the EASY back ones on perhaps this weekend .....

I think the Bilsteins will be to harsh, especially empty outback ...... Does anyone have a set of four Bilsteins, yet?

Mackin:

I ordered a set of Ranchos from Central 4WD last week and received all four of them in just two days (and I didn't specify priority shipping...besides, shipping was free!). I was extremely impressed with Central's service. I put the shocks on the next day, and I'm really pleased with them. Haven't towed anything yet, but settings of 4 up front and 2 out back have really helped the ride and handling of the truck. Put Ranch Hand front-end replacement and rear bumper on yesterday, so the additional 300+ lbs on the front-end has been addressed with the stiffer front setting.
